Silkie thread!

Does anyone know what color these chicks are going to be? I'm not sure what it's called. And will the barred looking one just stay like this? They were 3 weeks to Thursday. Full silkies.View attachment 2021694View attachment 2021695
I already answered your question in your own thread.

1. Silver Partridge Showgirl X

2. Blue Cream, or Blue Partridge

Hi all! Can any of you help me with sexing and color ID? This is “Batman” (if roo) and Black Widow (if hen) lol. He started out black and has changed into this pretty buff coloring... he is 9 weeks old.

Hey All,

We've gotten our very first Silkie (my mothers day present), and it is only a day old (if that), and in witg 4 other 2-day-olds.

I wanted to find out what color it will be. I was told possibilities of the 6 I got to choose from were - Splash, Blue, Partridge, Grey, Grey w/ Brown Leakage.

I believe Spash or Blue ...

Maddy~

There are silkie breeders that are working on project called satin. This is usually a silkie crosses with a Cochin and selective breed back to silkie over many generations to create a hard feather bird with silkie chicken type and qualities like black skin, crest and beard, 5 toes. You can search for satin was also known as smooth sizzle at one time to find more information. It can not be a silkie with out the silkies fur like feathers.
Your necked neck is probably from a satin project. She may have shown you all silkies but she either had a fence jumper or she didn’t mention she also has NN and smooth feathered birds in her flock of breeders. As far as color I believe they are both a partridge like.
I’m still sticking with that the one you have on the bottom picture (blondie) is definitely a gold not a partridge. It’s classed as an impure gold due to it having darker wings and tail feathers.

It is achieved by breeding a gold to a partridge usually. However, it is still a gold Silkie just with extra dark on the wings.

Here’s one of my golds that looks exactly the same as yours and then another photo of them when they are older.

Due to Newcastles and Covid 19 this past year I haven't added more birds to the property. My first and oldest hen is the Partridge Silkie. The Partridge Silkie is over 9 years old and she lost her other Silkie companion hen to cancer almost 3 years ago.

I considered getting another Silkie to replace the Black Silkie companion but my Partridge is getting older and no idea how long she'll be w/ us so if we lost her I don't want to be left w/ another lone Silkie again. Besides -- our little Partridge Silkie over her 9 years has grown up in my flock w/ 18 other hens (some lost to death, illnesses, chick mortality, or re-homing) so she seems quite content w/ our current 3 remaining standard-sized hens. Can't wait for the world to get back to normal so I can feel comfortable to add a couple more birds by next Spring.

OK silkie people! Help me with my chicks! I hatched 14 silkies recently, kept 6 of them and could use some help confirming/identifying their colors. The little sweeties are 2 and half week old and here are their photos and wings as of today! Some of them look quite different. I am assured they are purebred, all have the dark skin and feet and 5 toes! Some have a top knot, some don't. All have feathered legs, but some more than others. First time owning silkies, they are awesome!:love I am calling them all "she" but of course have no idea at this point!

THIS IS PIP. I THINK SHE IS LAVENDER, HER WING FEATHERS ARE SMOOTH. COULD SHE BE A SATIN?

@jmns

Too early to tell this young -- but aren't they the most adorable babies! They are even sweeter when adults! Hope you're prepared to deal with very broody female Silkies -- these girls are born to be broody -- but after 5 or 6 years old they usually stop laying or brooding and are the sweetest older girls! We had to return one of our birds to the breeder when one chick turned out to be a cockerel. We aren't zoned for roos and it broke our heart to return him!!!! There are private breeders that DNA sex their Silkie chicks but the pullet chicks can run anywhere from $65 to $125 per chick depending on how many cockerels were in the test batch. To avoid heartbreak I'll get a DNA sexed Silkie pullet next time so we don't get attached to a cockerel that we have to give back!!
