:O 24 eggs!
wow my broody doesnt even sit on that many at a time

the lady last time said 24+ and the extras she sent was 10 for a total of 34 this time she is doing 24+ again and i am hoping for an extra 10 like last time the only reason i only have 24 chicks out of the 34 is because i had one that for some reason had broken his leg to where it could not be fixed and another one for days was gasping for air i seperated it from the others i thought it would get better and did all i could for it but i had to put it out og his or her mysery so it would not suffer no more 3 eggs did not develop 2 had blood rings and the rest died early on in incubation. all 24 are in good health and growing and eating and drinking so i believe 24 out of 34 is good was shocked since i was tols that silkies are hard to hatch expecially if they are shipped. as they get older i will have alot of broody hens lol and my husband does not know what to think about that lol. i am so ready to recieve the eggs and get started my incubator is going to be crowded.

Very good hatch rate for shipped eggs!

well my 24+ silkie eggs i bought for 40$ is on there way i so can not wait to add to my flock now the question is in our coop we built a year ago it is filled with laying hens for us to eat and to sell di i need to find them a home and make there coop another coop for silkies or should i build another coop (hubby does not know yet lol) so that i can seperate the colors instead of having to divide the coop they are in. also i think i might do an experiment when they are old enough to lay i want to mate a white hen to a black roo and a buff hen to a black roo and a white hen to a buff roo and hatch there eggs to see what colors i can come up with do you think that is a good idea or should i just keep them seperated by color like have a BBS pen and a white pen i would have to build a coop for the buff since they can not go in with any of the other colors i only have 4 buffs. any ideas i have till spring but want to get to work on what i need so i am not in a rush later on.

Crossing possibilities

black to blue = black and blue

black to splash= all blue

black to lavender = black

black ( split or heterozygous for lavender) to black= black

black ( split or heterozygous for lavender) to lavender = lavender and black

black ( split or heterozygous for lavender) to black ( split or heterozygous for lavender)= black and lavender

blue to lavender= black and blue

blue (split or heterozygous for lavender) to lavender = black, blue and lavender ( you could get birds that are blue and lavender)

blue to blue = black, blue and splash

blue (split or heterozygous for lavender) to blue (split or heterozygous for lavender)= blue, black, splash, and lavender (you could get birds that are blue and lavender or splash and lavender)

This is an interesting cross and would produce a ratio of 6 blue :3 black : 3 splash : 1 lavender : 2 blue and lavender: 1 splash and lavender)

blue to splash= splash and blue

blue (split or heterozygous for lavender) to splash= splash and blue

blue (split or heterozygous for lavender) to splash(split or heterozygous for lavender) = splash, blue, splash/lavender and blue/lavender

I may have missed a few possibilities but I think I have most of them.
good luck

whoa! what happened to your comment. it is halfway stuck between mine!
OMG! the poor chick. i am really worried, we gotta go to town and i gotta
be with my hen and her eggs and the chick. tomorrow is when it will need
to start eating! i put a bit of water in there and some chick starter. i also
must make sure that mother hen stays on the rest of the eggs. she will
want to go and look after her chick and the others will get cold! but i
think she will stay on the nest.

I know it went weird, and i thought its too much effort to fix.
I'm buying/stocking up on my feed for them and more hay tomorrow.
before i put the broody and the chicks in the hutch imma have to clean it.

I would be worried about her too, as its starting to get hot here i have to boot my hen off her nest so she drinks.
last time she didnt drink i was so worried about her to the point i couldnt sleep.

Give her some watermelon

I'm a new chicken enthusiast just this summer and acquired a little black silkie in May. She's an unknown - came from a feed store owner's neighbor's cousin's friend. Well, last week as I said my morning "hellos" as the chickens all walked out of their coop into the yard for morning bug breakfast "Sookie" cocked her head and fixed me with a stare. Then crowed. It's a poor crow, but definitely getting better. I was saddened to hear that as I was hoping for a good little brooder. So now the question is do I find her - I mean "him" - a couple of hen silkies, and if so, how many, and as I live in upstate NY, when do I do this?

I already have 10 leghorns, five RIR's, and two old adoptees if this makes any difference. Thx for any advice I can get.
