Quote: 95 degrees the first week; 90 the second, 85 the third, 80 the fourth. I don't recall reading how old they are, but I always base the amount of heat on their behavior. I rarely use a thermometer in the brooders.
At the time I put them in the big brooder they were almost 3 weeks old. They were huddled under the lamp to warm up because I had them out away from heat for about 20 minutes while I got everything set up. I don't use a thermometer anymore, after my first 2 batches of chicks, I now know what height of the lamp produces what temp under it. It is about 83 under the lamp. They sleep in the random patten in a 1.5ft circle under lamp. So no one is too warm or cold. It is just right. But they do like being able to run around and try and fly in the big brooder. It is fun to just sit and watch. I am also pretty sure the little Black one is a boy, always on guard, puts itself between the other chicks and us, chirps the warning when we suddenly appear. Yay, we want one to be a boy. And I think the Black over the Blue, Porcelain, Dark Partridge, and Buff/Light Partridge(still don't know for sure which) would make for good color production, right?(still learning the genetics stuff)![]()
CuteMine are ChickenMcFlurry, Jasper , Hemlock and Magic Mike... if they are keepers they get names

Thanks for the compliment, it means a lot. I got the colors I did for eye candy for my DW. If we decide we like the Silkies as much as I think we will, and with Marge Best living a few miles away, I can get any plethera of colors to breed with and toward. These are mostly, for now, just pets/brooders. But as I learn more about the genetics stuff I am sure I will start breeding and/or showing them. Right now just doesn't fit in the schedule. I am sure that my DW will get the chicken math going here in the next year and will get more of the same colors to breed with.
Great pictures, thanks!Blue on the inside of the eggshell, not the contents. My aracana isn't currently laying (not sure if she will ever lay again, she is very old) or I could show you what I mean. http://www.carolegbert.com/mayo-egg-salad-from-local-hens and http://www.digginfood.com/2009/01/creamy-scrambled-eggs-with-parmesan-and-thyme/ show the inside of aracana eggshells.
Quote: Lol! I didn't even read the recipe. I don't like mayonnaise, so making it probably isn't in my future.
