Yes, the brooder can get pretty dusty. I like to keep my babies in a big plastic container (with a heat lamp) until they go outside....in the office, schoolroom, artroom, etc!You guys are as bad as my kids! They are all saying to go ahead and start hatching too and that we can set up a brooder in our art room. I'm just so interested to see what our silikes and olive eggers will look like! I am planning on selling the chicks so I guess it's okay to get started......This time I think I will build a nice brooder pen. I usually just use our dog crate halfs as a brooder.
As I take pictures it will be in the "My Coop" part of my profile.I got framework of a carport from my parents a year ago. I got it put up today and found a 20x10 tarp in a cabinet that I did not know I had. So now I have a covered area for the Silkies when they go outside in a month or so. Just need to wire it up so it is predator proof and then build the pallet coop to go under it.
I also took the chicks out today in the tractor, they did not like it. New environment and a little cold. My orphan chick was fine, scratching around like normal. But the Silkies wanted none of it. My DW said they are diva's.
Sounds really nice. Are you going to post pics in the coop sections ? Would love to see your pallet coop
I'd fire up the incubator if I had eggs to put in it....and if I had an incubator in the first place. lolIs it bad that it's 20 outside and i want to fire up the incubator??? I just need to figure out where to put the babies after they hatch....
