He's very pretty. The boys that look like the girls are the best! And I love the sunlight glow too.

It looks like a walnut comb. I prefer the boys with smaller combs myself, but it should plump up a little still. How old is he? My roos comb looked like yours until about a month ago, he's 9 months old now. He's very beautiful!
Peepblessed, she has been like this since I got her. I did polyvisol and vitamin e for the first week we he'd her, twice a day. Has not improved. I read on another thread that it sometimes happens when the chick has trouble hatching. She is fine otherwise. I don't have to worry about her needing to look up for predators, they will have a totally enclosed run/ranging area to themselves. I thought with wry neck they always looked upward?I love those girly looking boys!It very likely has wry neck. If it hasn't been any worse than this in the past, it's probably a mind case. Most commonly brought on by a head injury. Vitamin E is most commonly recommended for healing but extra vitamins including B12 and protein are also recommended.I gots a question, this little chick is ALWAYS looking down, just like in this picture. I can force her head up(gently of course), but she walks and runs around the brooder like this. Is it because she has the large crest or is this likely a deformity. Trying to decide if she will just end up being a pet/brooder in the future.
post pics maybe we can help with the decisionOh ok, it seems SO tiny compared to the other roos I have that are his age...think they are at least 6 or 7 months old now. Problem I have is I need to pick the best out of 5 roos and the rest....well...they're heading off to freezer camp![]()
Is this considered a pea comb? Pretty sure this is a rooster. I am new to breeding silkies so should this guy be culled (or sent of as a pet if someone will take him?)
I can't see the comb real good in the pictures. Silkies roosters should have nice, big walnut combs. My splash rooster didn't have much of a comb until he was 7 months old and then it grew into a big honker! It's been said that the bigger the comb the better fertility with males. I also read someones comment the other day that the rooster(s) in their flock with the biggest comb have more seniority. It's an interesting topic! It looks like a walnut comb.
