Silkie thread!

So....help! One of the chicks just hatched and it's hock is locked up. Like a chick I had once before with a slipped tendon but it seems pretty straight forward. Should I put the poor thing down now or do you think vitamins might help? Is there physical therapy I can do? I'll try to get a couple pics of it.
I wouldn't put it down =( Definitely try some physical therapy. Very gentle flexing. Even if it didn't get better it could still live. Definitely give it electrolytes though if anything. That is what my chiropractor told me to have when I was having issues.

I found this point deduction chart on Hat Trick's website, hope it's helpful

That's a great thing to have!

Regarding horns. My understanding is they may cause some point loss in a show and some judges are more picky about them than others. They are common but not desirable.
As long as it's not a DQ, I'll live.

I never even thought to get a real good look at his comb. One of these days I'll remember to take pictures. lol And as long as my cockerel is still worth breeding with his horns and all, I'll be happy.

I can't thank you enough for this advice. I was so jealous that everyone in the world seems to have tame silkies and I just seem to have unfriendly freaks, but no one has told me how to change that (until now). I'll give it a try and let you know how I go. Thank you again.
Don't be jealous! My chickens aren't big lap pets. lol They usually come running when they see me because they think I come carrying food every time....which I do most of the time.

And most of them, if I try to pick one up, forget it! Especially my roosters. They are wimps!! They scream and try to run away like little girls.

They just haven't been handled much. I'm going to have to start working on them soon if I planning on showing any of them in April. lol

Here is the first baby out. She was out of the carton, but climbed back in, lol!

lots to think about! hmmmmmm!!!!

I'll have to check the egg next time I see it. hoping it isn't smashed that time! Any idea how long it takes for oyster shell to really get into their system and change the hardness of the egg?
I see the look of the shell change in 24 hrs
Question.....I have about 2 dozen eggs in my incubator. I just went to turn them and thought I would candle them. I pretty sure I have only 1 egg that is developing. These are silkie and silkie/Cochin mixes. As well as a few olive Eggers. I collected eggs and sit them pointy end down. My question is could it be because its so cold out when I get the eggs? If so, anyone have any ideas???
I doubt it's the cold unless you aren't collecting them morning and night. Did you check fertility before setting the eggs? Some roos will only breed some of the hens.
I'm just broken hearted and beating myself up, I moved my 4 gorgeous 2 month old porcelain babies out to the coop, I did it so carefully, let them become adjusted to cooler temps slowly and made sure they were being accepted by the older group.

Last night for some reason one wandered away from the snuggle group and the heat source and must have died from cold.

It was too soon, I know this now and take responsibility, but why on earth would he leave the warmth of the group and the lamp and not go back when he felt cold? They were fine when I checked on them before I went to bed, all snuggled in a warm spot, they had had a warm mash late supper.

There are no obstacles and clear line of sight/access to the heat, water and food...why would he allow himself to freeze to death when he didn't have to?

My poor baby, I'm just heartbroken and wracked with guilt that I let this happen...I've moved the other three back in the house.
Heart-breaking. I'm so sorry this happened.
Any opinions on my silkie, Sandy? Gender is unknown and she/he is 10 weeks old ^-^

Cute chick but too early for most evaluation.

Now that my M Best Silkies are about 8 weeks old, the one that we thought was Buff is looking more like it is going to be Porcelain. You said her Buffs seemed light, that may be why. She has the Buff(light) coloring with lots of cream color underneath. The Partridge I have may have the Cream coloring under too, she is not fully feathered in yet as she is only 6 weeks. I am gonna try and get some new pics up here this weekend. Plus I want Mummsy to look at my Blue next to my Black to see if she sees boy or girl in the Blue

The picture I posted for you of my hen as a baby was when she was 5 weeks so yours probably won't change color. She will most likely stay that golden color. Interesting to see how she will look fully feathered though
