Silkie thread!

Hi Everyone. I know it's been forever since I've had time to post and I'm sorry. Life has been a blur this past month.
PLEASE HELP...
I have an emergency and need some quick advice: One of my silkie chicks (4-5 weeks old) has a very twisted neck. The first I noticed symptoms was last night and I just thought she was looking at me sideways (like chickens sometimes do). However, this morning her neck is almost upside down. I'm so sad and frustrated for this helpless creature and don't have a clue how this happened. The LF chickens free range but these babies are in a tractor surrounded with 1/2 inch hardware cloth........Some of my LF chickens will try to peck through the little holes if given a chance, though.
-Is this condition cure-able?
-What can I give the chick to help it? (Prednisone, Vitamins?)
-Should I hand feed and water it? I don't think there's any way for her to get her head in the feeder and waterer?
-Is it contagious?
-Should I keep it isolated?
Any suggestions will be helpful

Its wry neck - vitamin defect. Give electrolites and b12. If you give ff that will also help. Give it a week or so and see if that helps it. Its not contagious and its not anything that you've done. It happens but just watch her /him close, maybe seperate. The others might pick on it because its different. Make sure it eats, drinks, stays warm. Good luck.

Im sorry about your chick. I have had a couple and the recommendations I have had were first to make sure it is able to eat and drink so you might need to assist and Pred seems to help. Personally I think it is more neurological. Probably a peck or bump on the head. both of mine with time made a full recovery. You should do a search to find the dosage for the pred. You might keep it with another chick.. maybe not a bunch so they dont trample over it. It wont be contagious.

nyone interested in selling some hatching eggs, chicks, or even a pullet or two? I am looking for white, splash, or paint. . . . .I have a nonbearded white silkie roo I got as a pet and I want to get him a companion or companions. He is in with my full sized cochins right now and he is getting beat up. He is my husbands favorite so he is a keeper (we call him Icecycle) and i do not want him to go to a separate pen to be by himself.
Thanks!!

Thank you both so much. I put the other 3 chicks outside in their tractor. Then I made a solution of electrolytes w/ vitamins, Vit E, selinium and B12 (my good Standard Process supplements). I may add a bit of prednisone when I find a safe amount. She couldn't figure out how to drink or swallow from the dropper..........she sort of contorted and twisted all over-poor thing. So instead I soaked her food with the liquid and she ate it hungrily. In between feedings, she seems to enjoy falling asleep in my hand. I will keep you posted on her progress. I hope she gets better.
