Silkie thread!

Is it possible to tell by the shape of the comb as a chick what sex they will be? I have my 2 silkie chicks who are about 5 weeks old and they have 2 kind of different combs. One is slightly raised up in the middle and the outer edges are lower, and one is a little more concave in the middle and raises up on the outer edges. just curious if comb makes a difference at such a young age.

I did a quick preliminary candle on four random Catdance eggs tonight. A Lavender, Lavender pen 3, Porcelain, and White pen 2 are showing veining and tiny five day embryos! Bonney and Dumpling enjoying their new digs. An upstairs condo with a view.
Lucky!!! None of our Lavender or Porcelain eggs from Catdance hatched. :( 7/11 of the rest of them did though.

I just finished doing the six/seven day first candle. The results are interesting.

Seventeen out of twenty four are developing normally. Seven infertile. All four Blue Splash pen 2 eggs were infertile. One Blue Splash pen 1, one white pen 2, one Lavender.

A very good mix of the others are coming along. One White pen 1, two White pen 2, one porcelain pen 1, two porcelain pen 2, two Lavender pen 1, one Lavender pen 3, two Paint, two Partridge, one Black, two Buff pen 2, one Blue Splash.

If I get Buff pen 2 chicks to hatch and want to breed them, I will order the corresponding pen birds from Karen. Breeding matching Catdance pen birds is breeding brothers to sisters that have the same sire. I don't want to do this close of breeding with my first Catdance flock.

Now I've got to keep those eggs happily percolating until day forteen candle next weekend!

How fun! Those girls are darling! I set my eggs on the 20th. I candled them last night and it looks like I have 17 viable. I'm kind of kicking myself now. I wish I had done the drive out there myself instead of shipping to my house. I was just busy and didn't want to wait. Hopefully I will get a few to hatch.

Oh how funny! I posted the last reply before I read this! 17 viable of 24 what are the odds. I'm just a copycat haha. So now I wonder if it wasn't a shipping error but true infertility. I did have one blood ring.. but the rest of the 7 did not develop. I have 4/7 B/S developing- 2/3 W-W/2, 2/2 Buff, 1/2 Por, 2/3 Partrige, 1/1 black, 2/3 Lav/2 2/2 Paint or something like that.. my numbers are off, sorry, I have to get my son off to school. anyway, good luck! It's fun to have a little side hathc- a-long haha.

I don't remember who wanted pictures of my Bobbi Porto roo but here he is. He is 4 months right now. His dad is called Jumanji

I love that there is a Silkie in the world called Jumanji.

He is currently living with Diana our white Show Silkie... I love his crest! He looks like a girl but behaves like a roo.

Tips Please! My new white silkie always has a dirty butt and cleaning (then blow-drying) is a real pain! What to do? What to do? Can I trim the hair down there? How about a chicken Brazillian? Tips and tricks for dealing with dirty Silkie butt, please!

Okay Mumsy I'm back and re-checked my work. So it looks as though all my B/S 2 pen eggs were infertile as well there were 3 total.. Maybe one of us should inform Karen so she knows.. the rest are 1 ea. from the lav por part and W/2 pens. I do however have one from each of those pens developing.
