IMO, unless you are going to show them, trim the eye feathers so they can see. I am doing this with my breeders. I will stop trimming the cockerel I plan to show about 4mo before the show so he can grow them back.
Try just trimming his beard and muffs next time =) those are usually the culprits! Then you don't have to cut his beautiful crest =)Yea, I hacked away at his beautiful crest too. I don't show at all so its no big deal. His crest was just so big and beautiful I didn't want to cut it. If I'd have known he wasn't eating properly I'd have shaved him bald! He went to bed with a nice, full crop tonight- I made double sure before I closed up. I still feel awful though![]()
