Silkie thread!

Hi Silkie Friends,
When do you guys usually candle eggs for the first tim?. I set 24 Catdance eggs 6 days ago. I am dying to see if anything is happening. I am so worried that they might have gotten scrambled on their long trip to VA. If you can't tell yet, I am not super patient! I feel like it has been forever already!!

I have a 5 day old silkie egg, I can clearly see it's developing.

If you don't know whether or not you have loose air cells, it's best to wait 10 days. I candle at 3 days on my own eggs but I don't recommend that for an inexperienced candler. If you want to check a few now, candle them without tipping them over and shine your light from the bottom. You should easily be able to see growth but don't throw anything out at this stage since it is all new to you. Here's a great candling site. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation

My husband is a carpenter too.  I showed him the mid-life crisis coop and told him that is what I wanted.  He thought about it for about 2 - 3 weeks and surprised me with this:

We most of the material is refurbished.  We have stores near us called Restore that people donate their old or extra cabinets, wood, flooring, windows, lighting. He made the shingles from a job he did, it was old panelling or beadboard the owner had up. A lot of it is actually brand new - like the roofing shingles.  We also have a chandler inside and he painted a blue sky with clouds in the ceiling.  The outside pen is PVC tubing.  Originally we had netting over it, but it wasn't predator proof.  Now we have hardware cloth.  We are originally from the New England, so he wanted to bring a New England style coop to the midwest,

WOW! That's a fabulous coop :D

Nori is laying soft shelled and rubber eggs. I have oyster shell for her but she isn't touching it... What can I do to boost her calcium intake so she doesn't bind again? She has been laying daily! Ofcourse, it's AFTER I took her off the layer feed

I ferment their feed, I do have some pure bone meal available but I have heard some bad things about bone meal. Can I boil one of her egg shells and grind it up to a powder and just mix that in with her breakfast?

Getting excited! My first show coming up Saturday. Reading conflicting info- fluffing the cushion. Some things say comb opposite of feather lay, some say comb the way the feathers grow. I'm getting manic about it. Poor Yoshi- I keep going out and picking him up the way a judge would, putting him in cage backwards, etc. OHHHH I hope he's not too thin! Worry Worry Worry. This is gonna be fun!
