Ok silkie fans, I finally took the plunge and got myself some silkies!!They are about 10 weeks old and absolutely adorable!
Why didn't I do this sooner??![]()
Here are some pictures of two of them, Princess Poof & Princess Peach, I am hoping for girls....![]()
What do you guys think? Pullets? And how about color, what would you call them?

Thanks in advance!!
I agree!The mystery of poly-vi-sol.![]()
Yes, why didn't you do this sooner??![]()
Looks like Poof is a splash and Peach a porcelain, I think. Cute babies.Poof actually reminds me of my little splash, One Eyed Bandit, I had last year. He somehow managed to get himself in with the turkeys when he was a couple weeks old and got pecked. Lost vision in his right eye, the poor thing. But he was the sweetest little chick.![]()
I'm wondering if Poof is a boy...? Very hard to tell, they're still young. Hopefully I'm wrong!
What a treasure. So sorry you lost her...I guess I had the exception to that rule... One hen I had never went broody, but if I put her next to some guinea keets, turkeys, duck and even chickens she would raise them. The first few hours of introducing them were supervised, but we never had an issue when it came to her raising them. She would always cluck that motherly cluck and every baby came running. Sadly I lost her to a hawk earlier this year, she wasn't the prettest bird I owned, but she was my favorite!
This was Ms. Rumpy.
Beautiful!
I love, love, love this picture!!! Precious. My pullet (she's the one that has a brain issue) hatched her 4 turkey babies perfectly and is now being such a good new mother, feeding her chicks and being protective of them, even though they're not even her speciesthat's what I love about these birds, they're so accepting of any babies, even if they're not their own. The babies are soooo cute. The two brownish ones were quite a surprise, so far I've only hatched white chicks from my pair (hen is a royal palm, tom is a red bronze, created by a royal palm/bourbon red cross). I love their tiny fuzzy snoods![]()

This is great news. I have 6 chicks that are about 2 weeks old now and 3 pullets that are 4 months old. I think I'll try the same thing in a month and see if it works as well for my flock as it did for yours.I love silkies! I put my 6 week olds out last night and wondered if my 5mo would treat them well if I put them in the new coop together. I thought it was a good time to see since its a new place for them both. Gee, I never thought they would get along so well! She looks like a little mama with her chicks. Sooo freaking adorable! She didn't even mind them jumping up an getting a taste of her FF beard! I just love silkie personalities! THey will be stuck in their coop for a few days until our pen project gets finnished up this weekend. I'll post pics of the progression. It's under our 8 x 16' deck.
She's so darn cute with her little purple booties.

Quote: Sorry for your loss. Ms. Rumpy sounds like she was a terrific hen.
Try rubbing olive oil on her butt. Worked for my little one.I could use some advice. I have a paint chick that doesn't seem to be growing. I bought her along with 5 other chicks and they are all about 2 weeks old now. They were near the same size when I got them but now there's a big difference between her and the others. Here's picture of her with the other paint of the same age.Pipsqueak is the chick I posted about last week with pasty butt. She's still getting pb regularly. I check her at least x2 each day and gently clean her up as needed. She's eating and drinking and her droppings appear normal. I caught her 'in the act' yesterday and saw that the dropping was normal but never dropped off. It just hung there so I know now that things are just hanging there and drying in place. Any ideas?
