Silkie thread!

So after about an hour and a half of trying to splint the toes with wooden skewers I gave up! I straightened the toes flat and then wrapped them with coban. I'll try that for a day to see if it helps.

We used a business card and cut a little round circle out and set her foot on it nice and straight then put a bandaide across the toes we had to use the bandaides that are like cloth the plastic ones wouldn't stick. Best of luck.

My little babe has a 6th nail on one foot. Not that I plan to show her. She is perfect in every other way...to me at least

thats the main thing

How old is the chick? I think you have to brace it pretty early to fix it. If you don't catch it early enough the bones are already adjusted to the deformity. :( I've seen birds online that had this and they formed a callous on the toes they walked on and got around good enough.

I just got some new silkie chicks today. One has this foot. Can you all help this newbie fix this little foot??

They hatched the 28th and 29th. Is that to late to try and fix it?

If I had to do the splay leg again I would use the vet wrap the pony tail made her legs a little red by the next day. I removed it and she was already walking fine. When she was hatched all she could do was scoot around and her toes where curled, this foot brace her feet are normal now. In just one day. What do you use for substrate? They need to be able to get a good grip.
I also gave Poly-vi-sol baby vitamins with out iron as a vitamin deficiency can cause this. A very knowledgable BYC member on here recommends avian super pack for foot problems. I couldn't find it locally and wanted to start right away so used the poly-vi-sol.

So "snowball" crowed, and is now living with me

. But has anyone ever seen a hen try to be dominant over a roo? Ice is standing over him and even jumped on him and pulled some feathers out! Is Ice really a girl? She kind of looks manly, but she has NO comb whatsoever or streamers. It is completely flat and smooth, with two miniscuel little horns on top. She's about 8 months old I think, the roo is a lot bigger than her and only 4 months old. Is she just a Bi**h? lol

Some hens (especially dominate hens) just don't seem to like roos and take quite a while to ever let a roo breed them. I have an EE hen that stands her ground and fights her little heart out against the absolutely HUGE marans roo I have if he attempts to mate her. Even if he manages to sneak up on her and manages to mate her, when he gets off she'll chase him around for a while lol. This is the same roo who is only 8 months, but managed to kick my 2 year old wyandotte rooster's butt and take over the flock. But he gets bested by one little hen haha.
