Silkie thread!

Hello fellow Silkie Parents!
I need HELP with my eight month old white silkie chicken. She has some trouble with her lower half region. She has clear liquid dripping out of her vent, its not happing everyday but it comes and go. I have given her baths and made sure everything is extra clean in the coop. Please help me get her better! Here are some picture below to see the problem.

My silkie (River) always tries to fly like the other chickens. As we all know silkie's cant fly they only half *** it LOL So anyways she has found her new favorite thing. She hops around the yard! It is the funniest thing ever!

I love her <3

I managed to give cotton a bath yesterday and she managed to get dirty again within 24 hours. Does anyone else have this problem, too.
Another great benefit of sand. :D I never have to bathe my silkies and they always look and smell clean. The bottoms of their feet could use a wash though. :D
One of my broody has been raising two chicks for the past month. She has been laying twice this week and seems to be (almost) over being a mama. My issue is those chicks are still too young to be on their own. What would you recommend?
If she isn't rejecting them I wouldn't worry. Just keep an eye on it.
A vaulted skull was not bred into silkies; it has always been present in the breed, and is not a requirement in the standard. Do some breeders breed for it? Yes, Do some breed away from it? Yes. Do most breeders pretty much ignore whether a bird has a vault when selecting birds to breed? YES. Decent crests can come without a vault, and poor crests with one. And breeders do select for decent crests (as well as all the other standard traits).
Well said, Suze. :D

hello,

I have three silkie pullets and a cockerel. They are laying and my question is can I put one in a pen by herself with a box and put eggs in the box will she just start sitting on the eggs. I quess I am asking can I just make her go broody. Thank you for the help to a new silkie owner.

Oooo! I found a Silkie thread! I'll have to post pics later. Right now I need to jump in the shower, take the dogs out, lock them up, pack my supper for tonite and head to work. TTYS!!

No, you cannot make a hen go broody. You can encourage her by leaving eggs with her, but there is no sure guarantee she'll go broody. It's a decision they just make.

what they said, and it looks like she may have mites? There is a lot of crusting around her vent. I would check her over thoroughly.
