Instead of digging forever... How old do silkies need to be to be sexed?

Sometimes they can be sexed at 3 months, sometimes only once they crow or lay and egg. Some people can sex them sooner but very few.

HI there guys! I have a silkie pair that I am wanting to sell and someone asked me about their quality and I am clueless! Where else to go for help but byc! They aren't the best pictures, but maybe someone can give me an idea? They have all of their toes!

Has the rooster had his tail feathers plucked? He is a nice buff, not too much smutt, but his tail looks bare lol, the female looks nice but it's hard to tell when her head is down. If you can get a good shot of her more like this:



That would be good. She has quite a bit of light underfluff, but still looks like she would do well in shows, or be good in a breeding program. For the pair, I would say maybe $50? But others may have a different opinion.

Thank you, I will try to get a better picture of her face tomorrow. The roo hasn't been plucked, lol, he is only 7 months old though, maybe not filled in all the way yet?

I mean other chickens could be pulling out his tail feathers. Do you know if his tail was more full at any point?

I don't believe they have been pulling out his feathers, I think everyone is really good to each other in his coop and pen.

okay, if you could get a good picture of the hen that would be nice, but I would throw the rooster in for $10 at most, just my opinion though

Are silkies generally as intelligent as other chickens? I have one silkie who just can't find her/his way back into the pen and all my other pullets learned on the first try. This poor thing keeps bumping into the chicken wire trying to go through it.
Is this normal? He/she is 3 months and vision isn't blocked.
