Silkie thread!

This is my pullet, this is the first time she's gone broody. Do they sometimes goof up the first time like other animals? Will she abandon ship possibly? I'm wondering if I should have a back up plan :)

always have a backup plan... although silkies are known for 3 things: black skin, afros, and broodiness
hahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Omgosh, it is looking as though my hen wants to up my pullet. she's also been in the nest all morning! My rooster is going to be so confused haha. Looks like I"m going to have infertile eggs for a long stretch now. sigh...

I have a bunch of eggs in my friend's incubator. You think I should get them and have my hen sit on them? they're ready to hatch in a few days.

Look for a breeder that has birds that are "show quality" or "exhibition quality". Those are your best chance of getting fluffy birds like mine :)

Broody fever has hit my coop hard. I have 4 hens old enough to lay, and 3 of them are broody. The only reason its not 4/4 is because the other girl went broody when all of my eggs were infertile so I broke her. Hopefully she keeps on laying, I've run out of places to stashing sitting hens! :barnie

My eggs get here tomorrow!! I'm really nervous lol can't keep still. I'm doing that nesting thing we do when we are at the end of pregnancy lol cleaning, moving things around making sure it in a perfect spot...i've gone broody! or crazy one of them he he.

My two surviving chicks from my ill-fated hatch. they will be three months old wednesday. Looking pretty good

haven't convinced myself on gender yet. I think either a boy and a girl, or two girls. One has a definitely larger comb than the other, but no streamers or other signs yet. I guess only time will tell. I would really like one to be a male. I only have one now, and I would like a 'backup' just in case. I don't know what kind of bug they got, they still sneeze from time to time, but the rest of my silkie flock, with whom they were kept for a while, show no signs of it.

Hope they look like my favorite girl when they grow up

she looked very much like they do at that age.

They are both just beautiful!

I don't want to butt in on an ongoing discussion, but I wasn't sure of the best place to ask my silkie question....

I received a few nice silkie chicks who had one white parent and one blue parent. The chicks look blue. I am not clear on the term split. Does this mean they are split blue/white? If I were to breed them to each other (they are not related) would I end up with some blue chicks and would those be genetically blue? Or, as I understand you shouldn't cross with white, b/c it can be hiding anything, would they always throw a mix of random colors?
