So all three of my hens are broody now. One is sitting on nine eggs, one is sitting on five eggs, and the other is sitting on six. Today I went out to see that the one sitting on six eggs (white one) was taking her break so I let her out to dustbathe. I looked back into the coop to see what the other hens were doing and there was just one lonely egg sitting where white one laid. I thought that was odd. I checked back five minutes later, and that egg was gone too. It turns out that the one sitting on nine eggs had somehow stolen all six of white one's eggs. She was sitting on top of a bulging bundle of fifteen eggs. The eggs were all sliding out from underneath her and she looked very uncomfortable, but I guess she was happy. It was pretty funny. Anyways, should I take the eggs back from her since there is no way she can sit on all of them? Or should I just let white one get her eggs back by herself? Thanks.

That is hilarious! What a little egg hoarder!

I have 4 silkie ladies that share the same run and they all lay in a large barrel. One of the hens does like that and will steal everyone elses eggs. At first I kept trying to even them back out but I soon saw that the other ladies do a fine job at getting them back. I guess it would depend on if your girls get along well while all broody. Mine do. I do not know if that is lucky or the way all silkies can share brooding duties?

Mine get along pretty well. I just went and fixed the egg problem, but while I was doing that something really weird happened and now I am kind of scared. My white hen, the one who I returned the eggs to, has some sort of lump on her. I lifted her slightly to put the eggs under her and when I did, I felt a huge circular lump. At first I thought it was an egg, but I am 90 percent sure that that is not what it is. Is it a tumour? A cyst? An abscess? It was about the size of an egg. I was too freaked out to investigate further... I am really worried for her. She was just out today and doing fine and her eggs are due to hatch in just over a week. I am very worried. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... I don't know why but I couldn't help but think of a giant spider nest; you know how they are big and circular... Its right below her neck; where her body begins.

I had some chicks that when they were really little they couldn't get the hang of walking. It took them about two days to stop flipping over on their backs. If she isn't standing properly and you have other chicks - you can try putting her in a teacup that is just low enough for her to see if she stands up - that will strengthen her legs. Put a paper towel or bandaid on the bottom to give her traction for her feet - but make her work those legs to stand up.
