Do you raise silkies? And where are you in VA? Just curious cuz I am in VA too.
These are chickens... They are livestock and not humans. Expecting them to act like humans is unrealistic. As you said the feeder hadn't dropped any feed. They were probably just hungry and trying to find something to eat. If that means fighting a flock member for it, it happens. I've personally never had luck combining silkies with largefowl, some do...So my sweet innocent Marbles is acting like a teenage brat! She is the sweetest thing around, runs to me, snuggles, coos at me... Yeah, so yesterday she pecked at me kinda hard twice in a row. OK... then today, I had the chance to pet Andy, my EE because she squatted for me (also happens to be Marbles best friend) and Marbles took a leap feet first at my hand! WTH! I picked Marbles us and she settled down as usual closing her eyes and snuggling. Then I put her down and tried to pet the RIR, which Marbles could care less about, (actually has been picking on Marbles lately) and Marbles got upset and pecked at my hand as I was petting her.
Then I cleaned the coop, all the while, all the girls, (both top and bottom of the pecking order) were pecking each other. Then I realized that their hanging feeder hadn't dropped any fresh food.
What gives? Is Marbles hitting puberty at almost 5 months and is gonna be a brat? Or is she just jealous of me giving attention to someone else?
This is Lucielle. Used to be cool, now she doesn't like being touched. Now picking on Marbles every now and then.
This is Andy, Marbles best friend.
Mechanicsville; near Richmond
