Silkie thread!

I actually have some !!! My silkie roosters have been mating with my egg layers :-0 I put a few eggs in the incubator and I was shocked what came out lol
This a a leghorn hens mixed with my silkie rooster (white on white ) has feathers on feet looks just like a silkie just not dark skin was five toed too
Wow that's really cool. I wonder if they'll have the laying capabilities of a leghorn?

That would be awesome lol I sell purebred silkies but thought I see what happen with these. I will have to sell them cheaper of course but I have 14 egg layers and a ton of eggs a dozen a day at least so thought I hatch some out Instead of making boiled eggs lol

I'm soooooo excited!!! My little Nugget is FINALLY getting her feathers back, she's lowest in the pecking order amongst the year old hens but bullies the spring flock something fierce!?!? I'm hoping she won't be picked bald again by winter...her little jacket she wears Works Like a Charm!!!
How is this attached? I want to make some of these for some ladies in my LF coop who are constantly bullied by my alpha 4 year old ladies! they're completely bare :(

So, I separated my splash hen from the flock. She has a broken leg or something and the rooster won't leave her alone :( poor girl. So she's in solitary confinement :(

meanwhile, I have 3 eggs in the incubator that I'm not sure are fertile or not. But I'll find out in a few more days! I hope they are. I cracked one open and I just couldn't tell if it was fertile. it looked like some of the fertile pictures I saw online, but not all of them. I compared with my non fertile hens ( no rooster in that pen) and it definitely looked different... so we'll see! In they went. why not. right? :)

My Easter Egger rooster produced Silkie crosses by accident so I ended up selling him (my pullets are not even laying yet) and then I sold the chicks at 3 for $5 to someone near me. I am intentionally running a Silkie rooster with two Frizzle Cochin hens to produce Sizzles for someone who wants them. I do not want my Silkies and Orpingtons to cross so I may have to seperate them once my Orpingtons start laying. If I am going to hatch eggs I want them to be purebred, not mixes, unless the mix is a desirable cross for a specific purpose.

How long have the eggs been in the incubator? You should definitely see spider like veins after about a week.

Normally 4 days you should see growth usually looks like a circle I candle all the time learned the hard way with exploted eggs yuck no more of that had one explode in my face never again lol

These typically have a strip of fabric that wraps around the base of the wings to hold them on. Search google on how to make chicken saddles and people have uploaded directions for making them.
