Silkie thread!

I have been checking on my hens eggs, and finally today, one or two have hatched. she has three eggs. BUT, I don't seee any chicks! she must have them hidden well. there was a bunch of gloppy stuff in the egg that I saw. and it looked like perhaps the second egg hatched too, but it was hard to tell.

hopefully the one with the "gloppy" stuff is okay, I would lift her up and find them in her feathers. Hopefully it didn't rip open it's yolk sack

that is what I was worried about. because the only other time I saw gloppy stuff was the time I thought the chick was dying and I helped it. then I saw gloppy stuff I looked under her wings and I didn't see anything. I"m going to look again here in a bit.

Just put 9 blue,splash egg's in the incubator

I'm using the dry incubator method has anyone had a good hatch rate with it.

sorry to "butt in" but can you tell me the advantages of using the dry incubator method? I have 11 silkie eggs in the bator now(so far I am at 100% "hatch rate") and it is day 18...getting ready to put them on lock down. I realize that all of them prob. wont make it but one can hope! The only thing that concerns me at this point is some of the air cells look at bit small fro the diagrams I have seen online. Is this the reason for a dry hatch? These were my practice silkies(inexpensive eggs)...I am due to set the "good ones" the week after this hatch and want to do everything I can...they will be shipped, where these eggs in bator now, were not.

Well the two peeps are eight weeks old now, I would really like to leave them outside at night. I have been bringing them in at night. It's going to drop mid forties for about a week then into the thirties at night. They have a little dog house that I drilled some small round holes in the upper sides for venalation.(about quarter size holes) I have sand on the bottom and stuck some hay inside for them. Do you think they will be ok? They have about a week to adjust from forty to thirties. If not any ideas on what I can put in the dog house to keep them warm enough other then a light. A light would make it to warm, its a small area and I want them to adjust to the cold. Plus I would have to run a long extension cord and I worry about fire. Seems like their getting big enough now. Any thoughts?

I am still working on hatching but the air cells grow a lot in the last few 6days.

i had to feel under my hen all around to find them. they hide in the feathers, not just under the wings.

she's either hiding it really good, or it is just poof, gone. she wouldn't eat it if it died, would she? The second one isn't out yet, it is pipped though! and the third is not pipped yet. she was hissing at me bc I was messing with her. I hope that the one that hatched it ok!

I've only tried the dry incubator one other time. I had 40 egg's and all but ten hatched and the air cells where just like the diagrams show. what are you keeping the humidity at ? before when I would hatch I keep my humidity at 55 / 60 % for the first 18 day's and then up to 65 / 75 % and a lot of the chicks would die before hatch and the ones that would hatch where really wet and slimy. now I keep the humidity at 30 / 40 % for the first 18 day's and then up to 50 / 55 % .and the chicks look so much better there not as wet or slimy and they dry off much faster.

Oh my gosh, I screwed up
I just went to candle them for last time before locked down and cracked one on accident. The membrane did not rupture as far as I can tell.
Should I just leave it cracked side up? Anything else I should do? Wrap in damp paper towel?
