Silkie thread!

I will! I talked to Shari at Harvest Breeze (the lines they come from) and she thinks they will all be white. It's a fun little mystery!

They got their first little bites of food this morning. They haven't been brave enough to try the water yet. They are still wobbly but doing better. I put the food and water close to momma so she will stay on the eggs that are being stubborn. However today may be the hatch day for those two eggs. They went under her a little later than the others and those were due yesterday, but hatched a day early.

AWEEEEE!!!! I just love silkies! most end up hatching a day early! all of mine were to hatch on the 1st.....all but 2 hatched on the 31st! LOL so only 1 new year baby, 1 hatched on the 2nd, and the other 10 hatched on the 31st! LOL

it will be exciting to watch them grow! congrats!
(I have 2 frizzles right now and just love watching their feathers getting curlier every day!)

Black and White does not make splash.

I believe to keep the color genes pure you should only breed white to white.

I may be wrong though I am new to silkies and their colors.

hmmm....my breeder who breeds silkies said that's how he got my hen....he is trying to help me learn to breed as well, but I was also told a splash bred to a splash DOES NOT get a splash....I guess its sort of like you DON NOT breed 2 frizzles together....hhaahahh

were all learning together I suppose! hahaah

There is a breeder in Atlanta near the Zoo who breeds Paint Silkies. I can't find their web site does anyone have it or a way for me to get in touch with them?

You could get splash out of blue and white if your white is blue/splash under the white "blanket", but its not a certainty. Splash x splash always gives you splash, but breeding them together can lighten the color too much, which is why its reccomended to breed splash to blue to keep the colors darker.

a nice visual chart. black CANNOT parent splash. splash X splash ALWAYS gives splash, and there is no reason to not breed well splashed splashes together.
