Hello All... we are picking up our Silkies next Wed 3/12. We are getting a Black & Splash... I have read until my eyes blur... and we are new to chickens. The goal is to get two pullets. We can't have roosters. I see this breed is very hard to sex.. any advice ? Pullets smaller than Cockerels ? ?????? We will be picking up other pullet breeds at the same time.
How are the silkie roosters behavior compared to other breeds? Do they crow a lot??
I have some OEGB and the rooster is super loud.
OMG that is too funny! Mine have been taking the easter eggs I have in the nest box and laying on them when I take out their own eggs. So funny!![]()
We are picking up our little babies this WED.. I am a bit nervous as I am only getting two and really need them to be pullets. Someone told me to get a few more on the off chance they would be Roo's and I would be able to see them easy . Any last min thoughts as to what to compare them to ? I am getting them from a local place.
Hello silkie breeders. I am fairly new to the bantam world, I had bantam Cochins for a while when I first got into chickens but have since migrated to LF breeds. I'm getting into Silkies and am wondering if there's anything special I need to consider when setting up breeding pens, watering, etc? Starting out I plan to keep them in an extra pen in my breeding coop, but this summer I plan to build an addition to my coop, so the sky's the limit (that sounds dangerous LOL).![]()
I'm going to be raising Porcelains, so when I'm setting up breeding pens, do you only match Porcelains to Porcelains, or are there other acceptable varieties to mix porcelains with to achieve the desired offspring?
Thanks!!!
