thats cool maybe that will help had to move mine to a bigger one too

Good job!
Thanks, I like it much better and I think they do to! :) I'll take a pic tonight. The surviving babies are 9 days old now and seem to be doing great other then the baby that is still limping. But it makes me feel good seeing them in a much better setup. They look happy :)

Thank You :D
I know its dang near impossible to tell but I'm pretty sure I have at least two if not three definite roos here LOL. The first and the fourth are quite rooish, the fifth is the one I'm iffy on.
I love the fluffy cheeks too. So cute!!
Just got some more eggs in from the same breeder, plus some from two other breeders. If anyone's in Kentucky or close by I'm sure ill have some to sell come mid summer or early fall when I can tell for sure what sex they are.

Feeling pretty good about my babies new brooder set up :) I got them a lower watt bulb yesterday and today I picked them up a bigger brooder box. Now even more room, new light, and fresh bedding and the babies are looking pretty happy in their new home. I'll post a pic soon :)

Y'all going to find there's never enough room for chickens. They LOVE space - even the chickies!

If you mean , aggressive towards you. When my Jaffa gets a bit ' toey ' I pursue him and pick him up for cuddles. Carry him around all the while doing my chicken duties. When I'm finished I place him back with his girls. He avoids me like the plague now. It's not very masculine to be carried around in front of your ladies. You do need to be wary of offending the roo when you are around his girls. If you are lurking around trying to catch a hen , chances are the roo will try to defend them. After all that is his job !

Hahhaha too funny

how can i break my rooster silkie from being agressive he just started in the past few days????

A lot of chickeneers are complaining about aggressive roos in the last month of all different breeds. I think it's spring and mating that brings on the aggression. Is he aggressive toward you or the other chickens? If it's the other chickens, put up a barrier fence between him and the others without completely isolating him. If he fights through the fence, put up a 2nd fence about 6 inches apart from the first and that way the chickens see each other without contact sports.

I haven't checked on previous posts. Did you get booties or shoes made for your limper? Or is he improving? He will always limp if the toes aren't splinted soon. Inquiring minds want to know

I havent put any booties or splints on my limping chick yet. I know how to at least because I made some for the blue baby that ended up dying anyway that night :( But since she's only 9 days old im kinda afraid to do too much to overwhelm her. I am still questioning if I overwhelmed my blue baby, and thats what maybe dehydrated her faster or something, ill never know. I just dont want to risk it and would rather her focus on surviving and getting stronger. Im pretty confident I have time to fix her leg. Even if she limps for a month or so. I only say this because when I got my first silkie roo 12ys ago, he was given to me only because he was crippled and they didnt want him. I didnt care and was determined to help him walk. I made a homemade splint for both his legs and he was up and running in less then a week. He was several mths old when I remember doing this, and if it were not for that experience I would probably be more urgent about fixing my lil gals foot now, but I think I have time, and I would rather her get bigger and stronger first.

We all live and learn. I bought a bantam Columbian Wyandotte from a registered breeder. He was sold to me as a hen and when I took him out of the box I was shocked by his twisted feet. Everyone said take it back, but I didn't have the heart to, I knew that the breeder would have wrung his neck. Him and his brother are such lovely little fellows, they call out to the flock , ' her she comes ' every time they see me. His feet aren't at all pretty but he gets around as well as the others. The lessons learnt are , always inspect the bird yourself and don't just assume that just because you are always honest to others that they will be honest to you. Buyer beware!!!

This is Diablo. I know he's not a Silkie but he is the proud daddy of a ' Wilkie ' ( Wyandotte x Silkie )
