Silkie thread!

Love seeing my silkie hens being such good moms! I had one hen hatch out 5 MF and we ended up getting 3 silkie chicks too. Gave the chicks to the hen and she accepted them right away. We took them outside for the first time last night and it was so cool to see her teach them how to scratch around for food. I think she was really happy to be out of the brooder too-it's been a month since she's been outside to see her friends. Our other broody hen hatched out two guineas this morning, she has 5 more eggs to go.

Love the video. Put a great big smile on my face. :D That was so cute how all of the others came to check out the babies, and mama..she was watching them all, and then out those wings if someone came too close. Good mama!

Well after getting up in the middle of the night twice to wet down her inner membrane, the chick is out and under momma. Very weak. Chirping though. She has a little blood from where her umbilical was. Probably because the egg was pretty dried out I'm guessing. She didn't have to work very hard to get out so she isnt very strong. We have to leave at 10 am so I hope she perks up. I don't want to try vitamins or sugar water on a chick that can't hold her head up yet. Ive aspirated a chick before and it is heartbreaking. Thanks so much everyone that helped me last night!!!! I would have had a nervous breakdown, over a chicken. I'll update whe I get home. Oh yeah, and she is partridge. I think I'll call her Seven.

Sounds like you did perfect! Yes, the little one will be weak for a while. When you go to give it electrolytes, I never ever, make it as strong as they suggest. I always make it barely the color of the vitamin..not very strong at all, but it works great. I then just put a tiny tiny drop in the chicks beak. An hr. later, another drop. I do this for three hrs. The chick should be getting stronger, and you can slow down the tiny drops at about three hr. intervals. I don't do it through the night if it has perked up enough to lift it's head up and look around. I have found, that using the electrolytes often, can be more of a problem than help. Just a little bit of help at first with the ones that needed help out. I rarely put it in their drinking water if they hatched on their own, and they are doing well. That's me. :)

My three little eggs all have pips this morning. :) I am so happy, now if they will go all the way. I will be so happy to give the news to the gal that sent these eggs to me. Her first time shipping, and it was a mess..even though she did the box within the box. Bubble wrap. One of the best wrappings I've received in eggs. Wasn't sure I would get any to hatch, but it looks like I will.

Two are marked Silkie, and one not marked, but it looks to be a marans.

Love the video atrue! So adorable! Thanks for posting!

Kabhyper1 I have been following your posts & found myself cheering when you ended up with a live baby! Hope to see some pictures! Good job!

Cynthia 12 anxious to hear your results!

A few days ago I posted a picture of one of my silkie moms who was kind enough to take a splash baby I purchased. She was sitting on eggs already & took the baby without a fuss. I had a black silkie hen that sat on 5 eggs for 27 days & none of them hatched so I purchased a black silkie baby for her. She did not want anything to do with that baby so once again, I asked my sweet hen to take it on & she did even though she had just hatched a beautiful yellow baby of her own & was attending other adopted splash baby as well. She has two more eggs that don't look at all active. I don't usually have this much trouble getting eggs hatched. I am wondering if it is the cold Minnesota spring we have had?

Mom & Her babies. The yellow one is all yellow.(that one is hers)

What a great mom! Have to ask, what color is mom? She is very pretty..and I am loving the
LL
