Silkie thread!

Sometimes they need a little help, I dip my finger in the water and tap the side . Let the water drip into the beak. Once they know the ' finger ' I dip it into water then crumble and usually get the idea.

Thank you for your help

BTW that is seriously one of the cutest Pictures !!
How old is that little one in the pic

My pleasure. Those chicks are only a day old , coronation sussex. I teach all of my brooder chicks to eat and drink. Just the noise of tapping on the side of a ceramic bowl will bring them running. A poor substitute for mommas cluck.

Thank you... :) With this baby having a yellow tint around it, it could be splash, or, it could be a blue, having the the light go away, and the blue fill in. Have to wait and see. You can check those wing feathers in about 4 or 5 days to see what colors are coming in..or if no colors are coming in. Sometimes it takes a little longer, but watch those little wing feathers.

Thanks for the tips. These are his/her wings, so I'm fairly certain she is just a blue:

There is about a mm of white on the first primary feather of each wing, so I don't think she's a splash. I have a few white ones, that are already showing light amounts of blue on their wings. Its bottom is just soo white! Her wing feathers also look a lot different than my other Silkies' wings -- almost Cochin like (the people did breed Sizzles as well...). It's such a fun game guessing what they'll end up looking like!

Was is stated that these could be smooth feathered silkies? I have read up real quick. Looks like if the feathers aren't like a regular silkie, then, it isn't a pure silkie..it's a cross of something. Maybe a cochin?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I am almost 100% sure the others are pure Silkies, but this one is just throwing me off. Its bottom looks just like my black Frizzle Cochins' bottoms (a pure, bright white), and it's wings look just like theirs too. They did have Frizzled Cochins and were breeding Frizzle/Silkie crosses, so maybe they accidentally sold me one of those.

That's interesting..just had some NN's from GA. sent for free..a doz. for 29 dollars, and then some others for free from LA., a doz. mixed eggs for 16.50. The most I have paid for shipping this year is 16.50, and that was from Texas this year..closer to me! I wonder what's up with that.

It's ok, I will keep looking..there are some I have been eyeing, but they are from Florida. I guess if the ones I get from GA. hatch as well as they do, maybe the FL. ones will. You never know.
On man, they will be eaten.

Thats weird. I use usps priority. I've been told it's the cheapest with insurance. Maybe I should shop around a bit for better shipping options.
