I grow lamb's quarter (a weed by any other name) for mine, as they like it and it contains over 300 mg of calcium per 1/2 cup serving.
Of course I love to eat it steamed...it's like spinach, but tastier. :)

Too much calcium is just as detrimental to your chickens As a shortfall is. Once you've seen your first case of gout you will understand.
Hens will only take the calcium if it is needed. If it is in the feed and you have a mixed flock , they get no say in it.

So my 6-7mth old silkie hen just started laying maybe a month or so ago and was laying just about every day, sometimes missing a day but the last week in a half she hasent layed any. Is this odd? I had her eating the same medicated chick food my babies were on since they are all together so eating the same thing. But now that they turned 8wks, i recently put them all onto purina flock raiser and I think it was then that she stopped laying. Right now they are all kinda on strike and making more of a mess with their new food then anything. Im pretty sure she's not broody either. She seems normal, just no eggs, which isent a huge deal to me as long as there's no health reasons behind it. Any ideas?

Yes, there can easily be too much of a good thing. That's why I give my hens free access to the plants rather than mixing throughout the feed and mass dosing the entire flock....each hen only eats it if/when she wants.

These are my 2 new silkies. I got them when they were 4 weeks old so they are about 6 weeks now. The lady I got them from didn't know the exact colors or the color of parents, she just sells chicks. If anyone can tell me what colors they are that would be great.
