Silkie thread!

I'm pretty sure that if you got a vet to do it they'd do it while the roos are asleep. I'd have a vet do it. I have a Silkie that might be a roo and that's the only way I could keep him if he turns out to be a roo. I live in town.

I had a Silkie rooster while living in town. I raised him from a chick and in all the time I had him, he never once crowed. But he was definitely all male (minus the crowing) as the eggs from his hens were always fertile. A co-worker of hubby's has Silkies and she said almost a third of the Silkie roosters she's raised never crowed.

Ok, I'm about to pull my hair out.
I someone on here mentioned that they had never seen a female Silkie mock crow under the age of 1 and I forget who it was, so please forgive me, but this morning my only pullet out of 5 straight run chicks joined the crowd and crowed.
Now, it was a poor job, but it crowed none the less, so that makes 5 out of 5 that appear to be roos if the crowing theory is correct.
Can this even be possible, or did I just step into the twilight zone?

I'm sorry! I have 5 youngsters right now and I think they're either all cockerels too, or possibly 1 is a girl, but can't tell yet for sure. I have friends that have either all boys or all girls too, just luck of the draw unless you get 100 chicks. Last year I got 12 straight run d'uccles and 10 were boys. Anyway, sorry for your bad news!

I am very happy to say I am officially an owner of a silkie now. We got this girl today. She wasn't in the best of homes and she was badly in need of a bath and a nail trim. She was all cleaned up and will be spending the better part of the next couple months in her own pin on a high protein diet. Hopefully she will grow her head piece back soon. I also took a blood sample to have tested for any problems. My son was very happy to help with her today.

There was a black line that i didnt recognize this morning, when I checked back that afternoon, another formed. Thats when I realized it was a crack! Got super excited, went to work and 8 hrs later still looks the same....still havent touched the bator (thank goodness for windows) Im hoping it's just resting, I read that hatching 101 thingy all night at work, AGAIN, but my paranoia is getting to me.

Lol, be careful you'll get ' twisted bator face ' :lau
It can take 24 hours for them to hatch once they have pipped. :pop

Yay! Just keep busy doing other things, and before you know it... You'll have chickies. Just don't open the bator once they've pipped the shell or you can shrink-wrap them.

Holy chicken poop I sat down to type, went back to peek at the window and I SAW IT START CHIPPING AWAY. Keep keeping on little one!
Yes, I breed pigeons and I have chickens, but when my pigeons are breeding I usually check on the eggs progress every day or so and it really fun to feel the baby inside the egg moving around and see him chipping away.
