Silkie thread!

I've got a first time broody hen but I don't think she has gotten up ad eatin anything. I'm not sure though since I see them about 2 times a day. Should I do something for her? Her food and water is maybe a foot away so I think she could get up real quick and get it or something but I'm not sure.

I wouldn't worry too much, you would have to watch all day cause it's usually a quick poop, drink, eat , dust bath and straight back to the nest. I have a Silkie on 6 LF eggs ATM. She is locked away from the others so they can't A- steal her eggs or B- add to the clutch.
This way I can monitor how much food and water she is consuming. I spoiled her yesterday with cooked rice , sardines and olive oil. She was a little pig.
A little scrambled egg or a tablespoon of tuna in oil will go a long way to keeping her healthy.

My chicks are all nice to each other! I seriously see no fighting ever (only with the roos and I don't how them anymore). She's fine! She just gets left behind by the others when they are free ranging (sometimes). In fact, she hates being taken away from the other chicks! She'll peep constantly for the other chicks until I put her back. She is very friendly....just doesn't like being picked up.
Chicks can usually get along but this is mainly what I was stressing (on repeat) By 18 months to 2 years old the LF heavy 6-7 lb fowl will get mean or pushy with 2.5 lb Silkies. In a very large area with many birds it may not be a problem but in a smaller space with fewer birds it will be something to monitor. Wish I had heeded this advice when I first got my Silkies.

Good advise!

Since Silkies have almost black everything including their combs, then what color is a mulberry comb - another word for reddish?

it means a very dark blue, almost black?

I have 1 1/2 week old silkie who is the only hatch out of 6. She chirped so loudly because she was lonely. I rigged a cage inside the brooder of my 5 week old chicks. She has a heat lamp, food and water. She can see and hear the older chicks but they can't pick on her. Sometimes they will lay right next to her cage but she wants to be right on top of them. I can't wait till she's big enough to let them be together. Do you think she's a black with silver leakage?

Cute! Sorry she's feeling alone. Maybe you have a small stuffed animal she could cuddle with (one you wouldn't mind getting poop on!)
