Silkie thread!

Greetings! Just wanting to throw a few pictures of our black pair up for critique! Don't pull any punches.

The black n white picture is the recent one, he lost his crest from what I assume is molt and they're starting to come back. The hen beside him gets routine crest clips or her entire face disappears... The third pic is the hen between crest clips.
The roo looks to have leakage around his shoulder, other than that his type is nice. The little hen is very nice. :) And looks to be a genuine black.

here are my 2-6 day old silkies enjoying a little sunshine and foraging. I desperately wanted a couple white and buff but it looks like I got black and partridge. One of these days I will get my white and buff, haven't been able to find anyone close to me. These came clear from Georgia from a friend who was traveling that way and knew a person with silkies. I sooooo want a white and a buff though.
Please be absolutely thrilled with your Black and Partridge Silkies - these are my absolute favourite Silkie varieties for free-ranging the back yard. I've had a White Leghorn that looked snow white after moult but within a couple months would look dingy yellow or dirt-stained and no shampoo baths would help. On the other hand my Black and Partridge Silkies always look spiffy even after wallowing in dirt for their dust baths! White and lighter colors are not all they're cracked up to be and can be disappointing to have in the yard. But your Blacks and Partridges will always look wonderful even when they come out of the wood pile with spider webs in their "hair" LOL. Our matriarch Partridge is very trusting of us and such a dainty girl while our Black is a skittish lively pistol constantly amusing us. The darker colors are easier for health inspections too (lice/mites).

I got 3 little blue silkies at a swap recently, cause I was inpatient about finding a new color. (I only have a black and a white) the more they feather in, the more I'm beginning to think a few r Frizzled Silkie, which means they r not pure. That's ok with me, cause I will use them in my sizzle pens, just irritating that people don't tell you. I could be wrong though, so I shall try not to judge too much yet. Lol

What's the difference between Frizzle and Sizzle? Does Sizzle just mean it's a Frizzled Silkie? and Frizzle by itself is applied to breeds other than Silkies?

Yes. U can have a Frizzled version of any breed if you breed a "normal" feathered version of that breed to a Frizzled chicken. A sizzle is an Silkie bred to a Frizzled chicken, but the sizzles have the regular "hard" feathers instead of the "fuzzy" Silkie type feathering. When u are breeding a Silkie to a Frizzled anything, sometime u get silkies with Frizzled "fuzzy" Silkie feathers. The babies that hatch with feathers like most other chickens, instead of the fuzzy look of a Silkie, are called sizzles. You can have a smooth feathered sizzle or a Frizzled sizzle, who's feathers flip around toward their heads. A Frizzled Silkie still had the fuzzy Silkie feathers, but they flip toward the head, instead of going the normal direction.

Did that help, or did I just confuse u? Lol Its pretty confusing sometimes. My bf looks at me like I'm an alien when I start talking Silkie, smooth Sizzle, frizzle sizzle, frazzle. Lol

Is the Cochin the original frizzle or just the most common?

That's a good question!! Idk the answer, but I think its the most common used for sizzles. That's what I started with, now using 1st gen sizzles. Just need to keep using silkies and keeping my best sizzles to improve type and combs.
