My first and foremost suggestion is with that few chicks is that you don't mix LF with bantams. My two Silkies were raised with same day-old LF chicks and the LF grew faster and larger than the Silkies - to the point that the Silkies were getting picked on. They'd hide all day from the LF chicks and have to dash out to get a drink of water or grab a bite to eat and go run and hide when the LF came after them again. Not a good relaxing environment for Silkies. Since you said 2 are Silkies I have to assume the others are LF? About the only gentle LF I would mix with Silkies are Polish, Cochins, Faverolles, Ameraucanas, Easter Eggers, or Araucanas - possibly Breda, Houdan, or Crevecoeur. Assertive or dominant breeds like Leghorns, dual-purpose like Marans, RIR, BR, BOs, 'Lorps, Wyans or wilder temperament birds like Fayoumi, Campine, Brakel, Jaerhon, etc should not be mixed in. I didn't heed warnings not to mix bantams with LF when I started out with Silkies and learned the hard way with a few aggressive LF breeds having to be re-homed.

If you have more specific questions regarding your Silkies post them and you'll get replies from various experienced people on this thread!

i got the silkies with a polish, a cochin, an EE, a mille fleaur D, uccle, and a silver spangled hamburg. when they are older they will be living with an EE, a campine, a dorking, red sexlinks, naked necks, and BRs. when the time comes should i build them a adult chicken proof enclosure for them?

they look like roosters. their combs are big and they are high off the ground unlike hens.

hens can crow, but its very rare.

last year back when my white silkie roo hatched I couldn't tell his gender because I didn't have any hens, but once he started crowing and mounting I knew he was a roo. roosters also have streamers coming out of their crests.

Well this am she was laying in the box again. I held her up and she drank water, but still isn't interested in food. I'm going to give her electrolytes when I get home this afternoon along with the pred. Should I leave her in that small trash can all the time? I've been moving her to a larger box at night and when I'm gone.

What dosage of polyvisol are you giving her? Did the vet advise you to administer vit E ?
