Silkie thread!

That looks to be a roo
wink.png
the pic before the last one he has crest streamers shooting out of the back of the head. He was a young boy. Almost ready to crow

Thanks for the answer. Daughter named him Albetha but had Albert as a backup just in case!

Even if she ends up with all roos she will not care, she'll keep them all.

That's what I like to hear! Good girl you have there.

She's a good kid. Graduated from high school a year early and just finished her first classes at college (she'll be 18 in December). She wants to be a Vet.

We do have chickens that are for food but all the kids know the rules ...

If it is named after food it IS food. If it isn't then it's a pet :)

good rule. Lol I have a Cornish rock named drum stick for a reason.ha

Should hatch anytime now, not hearing any peeping may have already lost it. I was afraid to wash it. It stuck to her and dropped of in the sand out of the nest and was kind of cool when I found it and I have unstuck it from her a couple times now. I will be surprised if it hatches.
Very happy to see the little chick still with us this morning. :)

You may need to wash momma s undercarriage or give her a light trim. I've lost 2 chicks to getting hung up in the mommas fluff. If she has any stickiness under her your chances of this happening may be increased. If it is close to hatch I would be inclined to candle it, making sure not to roll the egg in the event that it may have internally pipped. A bit of wet paper towel and a light rub will remove any yolk but chances are will have set by now.

I can claim a small part in her high school success because she has been home schooled since 8th grade! Actually my daughter from another mother (I've been raising her full-time since she was 12) also graduated a year early and also just finished her first classes at the same college.

It's hard to deny my kids things because they are such good kids. We will be getting an incubator soon and fertilized eggs for the girls at their request. Although she might change her mind when she gets her silkie chicks on Friday! It is a complete surprise to her. It has been so hard to keep this secret squirrel mission from her but in the end it will be worth it.

Animal husbandry is a great learning tool. The lessons in life and death are retained forever but so too are the lessons in responsibility , love and friendship . Hatching is a great opportunity to share in the learning. This link is worth bookmarking and sharing with your girls.

My girl ate a lot better tonight. If I hold her she can keep her head up. Its when she is in the box that she looses her balance and starts flailing around. Poor thing.
