Silkie thread!

It's very easy to aspirate a chicken so it's best to give just a few drops , let her swallow then a few more. Little but often is best. What does her poop look like?
Are there any signs of upper respiratory issues and is she laying eggs ?
Just re-read your post , obviously not laying yet.

Yep a drop a a time. I use a syringe and if they won't open their beak just to the side of the beak sometimes works.

It's important to avoid the windpipe.

I dipped her beak and maybe about twice she swallowed and drank a little, so i put her back in with a little fresh hay for her to lay on. I checked one of my other babies with her and i think i saw a few mites? i have the poutlry/garden dust thing so when my sister gets home she can help me. Im just not exactly sure how to use it.

Oh ok , so mites are very hard to see it could be lice that you have seen, either way they will make your chickens very ill. They have a tendency to suck the life out of them, cause anemia and play havoc with the immune system. Check just below the vent for egg sacks, like these.

You need to pay particular attention to the vent area, under the wings and behind the neck when dusting. It's also important to re-apply in 10 days, and clean the coop out from top to bottom. Sprinkle dust in the clean nest boxes and add some dust to the dust bath area.

Ok thank you. I think im seeing lice. Is there a certain amount of powder i use on the chickens?

And i can sprinkle the dust pretty much anywhere in the coup?

Is it ok if the chickens consume it?

Sorry for so many questions i just want to be safe! :) Just a few more questions!

Does it matter the age? I have some younger chicks that i would like to dust. ( a month & a half old chicks, and 2 month old chicks)

No it's best that they don't ingest it. Remove water and feed bowls when dusting or spraying the coop. Spinosad is a premise spray that can be used in the coop too. When dusting the birds try to avoid the eyes and beak. I use a pyrethrum spray and literally drench the birds when I have an infestation .
Better to ask the questions and avoid catastrophe . :) I'm happy to help.

At what age does a male silkies comb start to really show. I have 5 5 month old white silkies and I still can't tell if I have pullets or roos. None have crowed and I only have one that has a little bit of red showing up on its comb but it's still flat just like the rest.

Our flock having some range time under my supervision. I hope molt starts soon, some of them look awful lol. The girls and boys are getting separated soon, so that should help.

At 5 months you should be able to tell. Put some pics up and we will try to help you decide. :)
