Silkie thread!

I don't believe it's a mix. I got it from Tractor Supply Co. It has the black skin and 5 feathered toes like silkies do. I have 6 total 4 white ones and 2 that are this buffish/ reddish with dark spots on the wing feathers. I just hope it doesn't turn out black! I have so many black chickens! Lol

This actually narrows it down a bit. I haven't found any hatcheries (at least in my area) who supply TSC AND have red Silkies. It's more than likely a buff.

Can anyone guess what color this one is going to be? I'm new to silkies.

It could be partridge, not all partridge chicks look like little chipmunks. Did have any black spots or stripes on its down? Could also be a smutty buff.

Do these look like normal silkie feet? I'm just more concerned about the claw that looks like 2 grown together.

Anomalies occur in all breeds of chickens. With Silkie toes some can have 4 toes each foot, or 6 toes on one foot and 4 toes on the other foot, etc etc. My Silkies don't seem to ever walk on their 5th toes so unless there is limping it shouldn't be a problem unless you want to spend big surgery bucks for a vet to correct it - but no need if it doesn't affect the Silkie's walking.

I am sure this could be personal or a breeding opinion...
i have a question.. these are my first silkies, i have 4, 2 males and 2 girls ... found out what they were after they matured.... gizmo, he is solid white, bearded silkie
(will post pics as soon as i can) the other male is i partridge ( gizmo's brother) and the 2 girls are twins black bearded silkies, so my white silkie is i guess a perfect rooster IF you need him to protect and breed LOL i dont,

so my question is should i breed him if he has such an attitude? or is this normal chicken behavior, sorry i am trying to learn as fast as i can i try to study them online and reading and watching videos, people are talking about them quite a bit... should i let him breed with my females or not breed him at all .

...i may not even keep him, he is a biter and it hurts ugh ... he is so cute

when he follows me around the yard and forages with me but then all a sudden he attacks me ugh... i have been doing the things i have been learning about, what to do to break a rooster from attacking... they say he wants to be the alfa male and i have to show him that I AM LOL so i pick him up when he does that and hold him until he is calm then i set him back down and give him a little pat on the bottom as i let go of him

... i am to show him during all this that i am not going to hurt him but i am in control

... he wants to breed with the girls LOL of course but i am afraid that i shouldnt let him breed if he has this attitude but then again most people DO want the rooster to be that protective,

BUT i dont need him to be that way they all stay in my room with me and are NOT outside silkies only when i am outside with them.......
** question is** should i breed him should i keep him??

I got a new silkie to keep my lonely Roo company but have no idea what color he/she is. Anyone have any ideas? Also I have an update on the crowing! We have been locking him up at night and covering his cage and no crowing at 3am or anytime in the middle of the night. We don't necessarily care that he crows all day....so he roams the yard freely. But crowing problem solved!

Ok just my personal opinion. Silkies are known for being calm and friendly. I would not want his attitude breed into his offspring. So I would not breed him. I also would not keep him. Yes people want a good protective rooster but a aggressive rooster is different from protective.

The fun things about white silkie roosters is when breed to any color hen you can get a rainbow of chick colors. But to me the attitude is to much. I would say bye bye rooster...

I have a white roo with an attitude as well. I just found out that his daddy is extremely aggressive so I'm waiting to see if spring hormones wear off. If not he will be finding a new home. I don't really want to do that but I don't want to breed aggressive tendencies and I have small children to think about. The decision is purely yours but having a similar situation that's my two cents. If I didn't have little kids I would keep him no matter how rotten he got but as a pet only. No breeding.

I'm going to look at some 2-3 day old silkie chicks this afternoon. They are, of course, straight run. I know that is impossible to tell what sex you are getting, but I as wondering if there were any clues I should look for. For some breeds it is sometimes best to pick the largest chicks or the ones most feathered out if you want hens. I haven't raised silkies in years, and I cant find any(even shady) information on what to look for. Any advise?
