Silkie thread!

Soooo chicken math got me....I have 5- 4 week old chicks 2 of which are silkies. But....what if they BOTH end up being boys!?! Better get 2 more to make sure I end up with hens right? ; )

Does this look like a splash to you guys? they were all mixed so I'm really hoping she is ...

.

I think that means you need more silkies, Natalierose.

These 2 silkies are my first 2 chickens, other chicks came shortly after. I think the black (or blue? ) one is a rooster, he/she sounds like he's attempting to crow, plus she's substantially larger than Fiona (the smudge, or splash) also the comb is larger, but like I said, they are my first chickens, any thoughts on whether she might be a he? I'm also wondering, if I have a male and female, if I let them have chicks, what are the colors likely to be? Thank you!

I wonder what it sounds like when they attempt to crow? Is it obvious? I suspect I may have a few roos too!

I'm not sure how to describe it, like there's a noise trying to come out, but it's having a really hard time, lol. I suspect it's a "crow" because its different than any other noise that they make, and only Petunia (or Phineas if he turns out to be a roo) has made it so far. Also, because he only does it in the morning, usually within a few minutes of the light turning on. I Googled what age a roo starts to crow and they said 3-4 months, but mine's not even 8 weeks until Tuesday. It is fairly obvious, as it is a distinct sound, wish I could get it on video, but he doesn't like to be recorded, lol.

I seriously think the boys may be camera shy?!! The one I suspect to be a male runs away from the camera and the others peck at it like crazy! Is the sound that Petunia or Phineas makes sort of raspy?? Lol. That's how I tried to describe it to a friend. My chicks are much younger than 3-4 months as well but I have noticed odd noises from a certain few and different behaviors... It is so hard not knowing the sex of silkies for sure. It drives me so crazy I sometimes just stare at them, make up my mind about who is what and then change my mind later! Your silkies are so adorable! <3

Lol, yes, I think the boys are a bit camera shy. I don't remember it being raspy, but I will listen for his next attempt. I just assume mine are all girls until I have reason to believe otherwise, and so far I think I just have the one roo, although my chicks range from almost a month to almost 2 months, so we've got a ways to go...

I've got 2 that are 7 week they do a lot of chest bumping and jumping at each other I saw that from my young orpington and other roo, so I'm guessing I have 2 young roos so I really hope my 5 younger are all hens
