I have a Silkie roo who has always had a different attitude then my other chickens but he is only 13 weeks old. He's pecked me before and lately he's been pecking all of my chickens but lately he won't let go and then once they get away he chases them. Are these sign that he's a bad rooster? Should I be worried about his attitude towards me and my chickens
I isolate nasty tempered chickens. Could be teenage hormones, could be an attitude problem, could be self-assertive pecking order status. If he's the only bantam he could be asserting himself. If he's with other Silkies then try isolating him to see if one-on-one handling calms him down while away from other chickens. You know your flock and mix of breeds best to assess his behavior and whether you want to keep him. I had to re-home a Silky cockerel, not because he was mean, in fact he was really sweet, but he wouldn't stop crowing all day long and we're not zoned for roos.
