Silkie thread!

The boys started getting their combs in a week ago and the girls started getting their crests. Sometimes I'm wrong on the boys, but if my birds start getting big crests early, they are always female. With the attitude, I thought this was a boy. It's a girl. With the light mixed mashed coloring on her, she will make a good picture bird. I love my partridge but they suck for really good pictures.

i DISAGREE! I L-O-V-E YOUR PARTRIDGE PICS! OF COURSE, I LUV ALL YOUR PICS!

How many silkie roosters can you stack in a nest box? Apparently the answer is five as the other two were in front of it until I picked them up and put them in an empty one
COLD WEATHER MAKES STRANGE BEDFELLOWS!
The foot and a half of heavy wet snow collapsed two of the silkie pen roofs. After I dug the birds out they had to go somewhere. The 7 bachelors went into the big girl coop (8x16 interior). They are used to sleeping together and no one of them gets picked on. Raditz and his 6 hens went into Ashes' pen. They are the only roosters that don't fight when they have hens. The girls had a few spats though. I may be moving a few hens over to Kakarot's (Raditz' normal sized brother) pen just to give some space. That is a really full pen right now. When the snow is washed away by the rain in a couple days, I can salvage enough unbent metal roof poles to get one pen roof back up. I had to order parts, but the last pen will be back up next week.

Dealing w/ snow must really suck! I guess that's why mountain cabins have peaked/pitched roofs because of it. My worst problem is severe heat or humid summers. This past couple months it's been raining. I squeeze in a couple days between storms to lay out my paver stones to divert rain in winter and keep out weeds in summer. Gotta work on the front yard next. Supposed to be sunny this weekend - hope so!

Man there's some beautiful birds/babies on this thread. It's been a while..had to catch up. I was in awe at some of the beauties. I took some photos of my babies .. and their funny little hairdo's for now.

Loving the light splash! And the blacks. Wish it were easy to sex these little stinkers earlier.

A lot of dark blues, and a couple of lights, that could be splash.

Help...We got 2 silkie chicks and I am amazed at how tiny they are. The black one in the pic started having trouble walking so I separated them from my regular chicks cause they are about 1/3 the size but the same age. Why are they so small???

Any advice on what to do for this little guy? He's eating, drinking & pooping but what do I do for his leg?
