When broody, my hens will pick up grass and straw and put it on their backs to carry inside to their chosen nest. (I have shavings inside). It ends up with full straw nests for the eggs. It's the oddest thing to watch them do it.

Your girl is lovely! I would love to have one w/ her coloring. If you are breeding for Silver Partridge Silkies using her, you might consider keeping her bred to a non-bearded male since your girl looks to be non-bearded. Otherwise, breeding a bearded to non-bearded will diminish the bearded look on the bearded offspring. Both bearded and non-bearded are accepted standard but a half-bearded is kinda in nowhere-land. Just a thought. And have fun w/ your Silkie. They are a precious funny bunch!
Thanks for the tip I'm in the shopping phase and hoping I can find more like her. I know a lot re looking for bearded and this why I got her. Her breeder wanted bearded and she didn't have one.
Lol Sylvester that is too cute my girl has a crusty crest as I fed her some yogurt that I found hidden in the back of the fridge. Thanks for the tip I need them something to think about!I know Fancychooklady likes the non-bearded for keeping cleaner but she also breeds bearded Silkies. It all depends on peference. They are sweet birds either way. After watching how much debris my Black Silkie picks up, she really should've had less crest and no beard!![]()
There are times when she can look full and fluffy but it's rare for her!
