Though all silkies are cute, that definitely isn't the goal! I appreciate the help! I was hoping I could produce lavender (2 alleles, of course..), but didn't factor in how the remaining partridge genes (or whatever she is..) would interact with the lavender....

You need black for the base color. Lavender is a modifier gene

So... I have a blue carrying one lavender, so half black background... With him and the little pullet, if I was careful, it would be possible to get to lavender.... But an aweful lot of work... With chickens who are nice, good feet, nice feathering, disposition, but definitely not grand champions.... Maybe should fork out some cash and start with awesome birds!!! But what would be the challenge of that??

My two wyandottes don't go far they know their boundaries and I tell them too stay they stay. If they listens too my direction I bring them back a nice piece of fruit as a reward. You can also invest in a chicken harness and put them on a leash!

Hinotori - after doing some digging on color outcomes, it looks like lav contamination in my partridges can cause some pretty serious issues that will result in lots of culling (to egg laying pens, pets etc.) So I'll probably scrap some of my ideas.... on another note, if I had a few lav alleles floating around in a bbs pen, would that cause any serious issues?? Seems like, since blue and lavender are both dillutors, but not additive, it might not be an issue??? My kids want to dabble in shows (probably mostly 4h/ fairs etc., Nothing crazy (at least yet...these crazy chickens are addictive...) I just dont want to make mistakes that I could avoid if possible, and I might as well try to produce the best I can....

Who hatches their own silkies? Do you incubate differently? I saw on FB that someone said not to lockdown above 65%

The hens take turns guarding the babies and comforting them when I open the pen.

Broly getting a treat. He's to the age he doesn't like to cuddle anymore but is very happy to follow me still.

Thanks for all your answers! After I posted this, I found an old thread... Lav has some feathering issues and some hatching issues, so you would just be adding problems to bbs lines I think.... May be other reasons.... This newbie may just have to pick white... It's easy....
