I have a buff roo, 2 partridge hens and a blue hen. A couple babies look blue at the dark points in the feathers.

I would say that baby is the offspring of the blue hen as she can throw black base too. Looks like a buff and black mating.

Thanks! I’ve been trying to figure out the color name. I have a black chick with gold leakage too but it doesn’t look like the pic I posted. I knew for sure that one was leaky.

Question about cockerel behavior. I have 2 cockerels that get in the nestbox and mount the broodys, is this normal? My current rooster has never done that, he guides the pullets to the nest box but I have never seen him mount them in there. I’ve been thinking I might need to separate them it’s just a pain right now with having to deal with keeping water thawed as I wouldn’t be able to provide a heated water to that area of the coop. Anyone have any experience with this or have other suggestions to deter them?

Yes my less dominant roosters will mount them in the nesting box. I think they are being opportunistic.

Ok so it is normal, right now nobody is getting any eggs to hatch so I don’t have to worry about broken eggs. I only have a few old enough to lay that might be part of it too. Most of my pullets will be at POL in the next month or so. My only hen has 4 week old chicks right now but once chicks are hatched my rooster doesn’t allow any of the cockerels near her. I figured it was opportunistic.
