I got some alfalfa for my birds after reading this. They love it. Thanks for the idea.I have found a great winter supplement for greens and give them an activity. This alfalfa is great very green and leafy very little stems and tough parts. My Silkies love scratching in a pile for all the leafs. I’m always on the search for good treats to supplement for lack of anything green in our long winter.

Beautiful chicks. Mine hide eggs too.So some how in -50 degree weather my black silkie not on hides eggs but hatches them.. they are in the house now tho..lol

Yes that’s why I only use it as a high protein treat a couple times a week I give a couple handfuls. I don’t use layer feed.Alfalfa is also high in calcium. We feed it to dairy goats and cows before they give birth to aid in milk production and prevent Ketosis.
