Silkie thread!

I have found that anything that causes stressers can/will trigger a tucking response in some that have been injured. Just like a person who has had a head injury, if they had a paralysis from an injury, ie left side of body not working, that when they are heavily stressed out, sick, of fatigued, they find that they cannot use there left arm etc. When the receptors in the brian are regrown, they are never as good as before injury. There are slight gaps on the threads that don't completely fill in, which is why you have the response to the stress.

I usually give mine no more than 8 usually 6 eggs.

We have had our share of "wry neck" too and I do believe that it is either from extreme vaulted skulls or injury. The best treatment is Prednisone...we give 2.5 mg twice a day for 2 days, then once a day for another few days.

Just in case it is also nutritional, we add a Vit. E. capsules squeezed into their beaks once a day and B12 complex added to water for a few days. I just had a 2 week old chick have it happen and the chick is fine now. He did have an extremely large vault at hatch and I've noticed it mostly with those with large vaults.

I have a gorgeous white pullet that will probably always hold her head at an odd angle because of it. She'll be fine for a month or so and then have a couple of days with head tucking. We just give her a dose of prednisone each day and leave her with her buddies. So far she has always gotten better.

Is anyone with really nice black hens going to the Georgia show next weekend? I'm looking for a top quality black hen for my lavenders.

Or if you have a top quality black hen and would ship, I'm interested in shipping as well.

Does anyone have any silkies for sale around Anderson, Indiana? I am a 4H'er and i just lost my first place roo and im looking for another. It has to be show quality, and friendly. I dont care if it is male or female but i do miss a crow in the morning! Im not particular on the color or age either. I wouldnt mind having an older one so it would have full plumage but a younger one i could teach good habits! An older one definatly has to be friendly as i have a white silkie hen right now and i wil not tolerate any bullying! I am the oldest in our 4H group so my birds are used for alot of examples and the mini 4H'ers like to play with them... Just post a reply if you have any or know someone who does! I take very good care of my birds and the are VERY spoiled!

thanks muddy horse, We were all heart broken. I rescued him when he was about 2 weeks old, He was a pitiful little thing, missing feather ad his feet were all cut up from the wire bottom cage. He was in shock when we got him but i nursed him through it and he ended up winning first in variety last summer! He sure was something. My pride and joy but he was a rotten little thing to! I dont know if eggs will work but thanks for the offer!

This was him about a month after i got him! Sassy little guy
