My babies in the brooder are 4 weeks old I'v been teaching them to sleep without their heat lamp at night (They are inside my house). Getting them ready for living outside. They will be 6 weeks by spring well 7 weeks by spring and I hope I will be able to put them outside by then.

There smell and playing in the brooder at all hours is driving me nuts..LOL

Hi
I am new to silkies and have a question for those of you that know a ton more than I do about this breed.

I have some quality silkies that are bearded and have very nice crests from a prize winning breeder.

I noticed that on some of the younger teenagers and hens especially, their crests seem to look matted or wet a lot. The roosters seem to be fine.

Someone suggested that I use a different type of waterer so that they have to turn their head to drink from the side.

What am I doing wrong and how do I get them back to how their beautiful crests should look? Comb them?
