I lost my girl this morning when I woke up I found her almost lifeless I thought she was dead till I picked her up and felt her breathing. She passed quickly after

I am going to have her sent off to be checked to see what happened.

On a good note: My cuckoo silkie chicks are a week old and are doing well I can already see the cuckoo coloring coming in on their wings. I am really excited to watch these cuties grow.

Also my teen silkies in my grow out pen are looking very nice I have two grays I think one is a roo and one a pullet I have a very nice white I believe to be a pullet who has some very nice crest and foot feathering and a buff who I think is a roo who is one odd ball color..LOL I guess he is just a very messy buff and I can't wait to see how he is gonna look mature.

Oh and my project pen whos carrying the weird colors is laying and her eggs are fertile...YAY

What a pretty boy!! My whites look like regular whites when they're grown. I'm definitely going to grow these out if they'll look like him.

I have paint chicks, too!

They are sure easy to spot in the brooder!

I have an answer on what color the chicks are with my white male to black female, the peeps are black. They must of hatched last night.

The black chicks are from the rooster in the pic? So would that mean he's recessive white?

Would my chicks smokey chipmunk stripes mean mine is dominant white?

I don't know, I'm waiting on an answer on ASBC from some of the genetics gurus. If he is, that would suggest the breeder of my whites from years ago were crossed with black. Which is perfect because I need blacks.

How does everyone here feel about strangers coming out to your set up to look at something you have for sale?
I know I have heard that people can bring things in to your coop from their shoes.

I like to let people come out but since this new recent death of two of my chickens it became odd to me that a few days before I had someone out into that pen.

Now I am worried about letting people into my coops/runs.

I don't let other chicken people into my coops accept for my neighbor and my best freind and all of us are very big on bio security. If someone wants to look at a bird to buy bring it to them outside the coop/pen area. With that said, it's also a good idea for YOU to have boots strickly for doing work in the coop. Just by walking into tractor supply where other chicken people have been you could bring something into your coop that way too.

Thats great I am glad other people feel the same way about letting people come inside your coops. I only let myself and my kids inside we have crocks we wear. This person came to look at chicks and I didn't even think about him coming in till he was already in. NEVER AGAIN!

I don't even bring them back to look at my coops/chicken area. If they don't like it, then don't purchase anything from me. Plus, with all these recent silkie thefts I prefer strange people (from craiglist) don't know what else I have.
