Silkie thread!

Hi! Here is a pic of one of my roos. Is he PQ, BQ, or SQ? He has 5 toes and great foot feathering.

Thanks for any opinions:)

He is about 5 almost 6 months old.

I'd call him PQ. His cushion/tail has too much hard feathering in it, His neck looks a little long, legs look long, and his comb is a bit lighter than what i'd want to see on a white. Plus his wattles are large, which they should hardly be noticible. (Bearded - very small, concealed by beard., natural absence preferred.)

I agree; not very types, too tall, crest too small, too much red in comb. I do not see any DQs, but with that many defects (especially type), I'd consider him PQ.

Don't worry, my hen was giving me little nips every time I picked her up.

Shows can be so overwhelming to the birds. And us! My girlie was in the 'section' in front of yours, underneath two nice whites (She's a black). I was very taken with those awesome buffs! Very nice birds.

But they seriously messed up the caging this time...Did you notice how out of order the cage numbers were? I was number 19 and was underneath like number 57.

All of the Silkie colors were all messed up. I was the only black in the section! It was crazy!

Trying to think here…was yours the one that someone in a white lab coat was at her cage???? Was this yours or was yours a different one? I remember a cute little black one that I was watching a girl in a white lab coat handle and I couldn’t figure out if she was sick, or she got hurt or something. Was this you? That is the only little black one I can remember by itself like that.
LOL…being my first show, I didn’t know the cages should have been different!

But I did wonder why the colors weren’t together for all of them. Yes, the buffs were gorgeous and so were the whites!! I would love to have whites but I know I could never keep mine that white!!! I had a hard time with my splash girl and trying to get her feet & beard clean!

Yep, that was me in my lab coat.

I was handling Ophelia alot that day. I take every opportunity I can to compare my birds to the very best. Not too many shows occur so close to home (we only live half an hour away) so I like to get the best observations I can. Also, she wasn't acting as calm as the others so I tried to get her to settle down. She's quite a tuffy. Her happy place is home with her mate. She becomes very difficult when brought out.

Haha, that's true about the cages. Yes...the birds are usually organized much better (Bearded black cockerels/roosters, Non-bearded black cockerels/roosters, Bearded black pullets/hens, Nonbearded, etc). It was much better last fall. Yes, and one of the whites made it to champion row. Stunning bird! I think I read a statistic that stated that 70% of all Silkies dubbed 'champion' are white.

Looks good but make sure to add something to prop the doors open that won't slip or get taken by the wind. I made that mistake and got clobbered a couple times by the flip roof on one of my coops. lol!

been so wet here i would stick any thing out side that cant swim

been very wet here too getting a storm right now, but the sand will drain fast since it will be above ground level

I get flourescent zip ties in all sizes at Harbor Freight. They have a web site as well if there isn't a local store in your area.
