I live here in Portland too..I read here to use sand in their run and my two silkies feet are staying clean..just a thought. Even when its been raining

it comes right off once they go to their coop.

I'm in Eugene! Oregon weather is unpredictable! I just wash my silkies feet with warm soapy water. But for this winter I'm considering getting some chicken shoes! Yes, chicken shoes. They even have a special shoe for silkies! http://www.indoorducks.com/shoeinfo.html

Thanks! so she is a darker splash? She is darker than my other splashes. I think the flash might have lightened her a bit in the picture.

Here is my blind girl Honey...(I love this girl by the way!)

But you can see a bit of the first girls head in this picture and see that she is darker than my other splashes. Thanks for your help!

she looks like a blue to me

I kept going back and forth with her. At first I thought a darker splash, then I am thinking maybe a blue....then gray. I just wasn't sure what to call this little one!

I'm fairly new to silkies, just hatched some out 3 months ago. I have 4--a white (half the size of the rest, although they hatched on the same day & all came from the same breeder), a cuckoo, a partridge, and an isabel. I believe the cuckoo to be a male (we call him Roberto), not sure on the rest. The partridge has a dark gray/black crest and reminds me of Billy Preston (a music artist from the 1970s), so we named him Preston. The little white one is named Sascha (if she turns out to be a male, she'll be Sebastian). The isabel is hopefully a girl, and we have named her Honey (will be Henry if she turns out to be a male, which I don't think she is just based on behavior).

I know that with silkies, it's hard to sex them until they either crow or lay and egg. At what age, generally speaking, do they reach that point? Do they reach POL at about 20 weeks like large fowl chickens, or is it different with bantams/silkies?

Thanks in advance for your sage advice and wisdom.
