Silkie thread!

i have a question and thought this might be the thread to ask it. I ordered 3 silkies pullets from a hatchery and they are now about 8 weeks old. Two of them have very fluffy heads but the buff colored one has a fluffy body but a somewhat flat feathered head. Do some develop like that or is it more likely that it is not purebred. It does have 5 toes and the right coloring........just not wearing a hat! I'm sure all you silkie breeders might know.

A lot of times, hatchery birds won't have the crest that other silkies have. By other I mean silkies from a breeder. Hatchery silkies are often non-bearded also.
In either case, a non-bearded silkie does not have the crest that a bearded silkie has. I am clueless as to why.

Thanks, I am sure it is non-bearded as it does look different from my others around the face......much sleeker.

Ok so I have a mixed breed bantam roo with a cochin and a black silkie hen.the problem is the roo keeps pulling the fluff off her head when he breeds her and know she is bald.Any suggestions on how to fix this ?

thanks three ceders, i just cant tell the differance in those pics though, and all just look like awsome puff balls. should i see by now half grown about, waddles on male or some distinguishing features, that silkies might be subtle in? the bigger one is more fluffy all around, but they all act exaclty the same, which is not very active besides sometimes sparing with my hens, each other, and trying to smother chicks under fluffiness, which they dont seem to mind, but makes mamma hens angry, which might be starting the sparing (twice i went out to te sight that seemed like a pillow blew up, as had white fluff and black feathers everywere, and seemed as rooster were hiding from commotion, that theyd been beaten wit pillows. lol). a i over reacting in the concern of letting the silkies out with rest, that th hawks seem to be watching them around more cause of white? it seemed the games were not bothered once they got big enough to fight back and well win once hawks were grounded, but the whte egg layers were always watched when hawks were around.

Hi all,
I am so proud of my girls..hehe. Although I am starting to think Lady Gaga is more of Mr. Gaga..she/he is the white one..the black one is Phyllis Diller, who unfortunately will probably never develop tail feathers since her sisters keep pecking at it..

They are also the same age and Phyllis is still very little
