When I was younger I remember my grandmother telling me about her goose she had called Sundown. So I went with Sundown Silkies.

Southern Belle Silkies sounds cute.

There is also "Sparkle City Silkies".... For me that's been my favorite. The only problem is I'm in the country/ not the city. Sparkle city was a name given to Spartanburg. Something about a band from Spartanburg a long time ago.... Forgot the whole story

Thanks NewToFarming I will know not to do that then.

Debbi PRO: vaulted skulls will give the silkie a larger poof on top of their head. Nice for showing although not recquired. CON:I also think it is easier to get a head injury with a vaulted skull. I have seen some of my silkies go temporarily bobble headed on me just by getting hit in the right spot by a raindrop. I am noexpert on this though.

No it will not. That was the belief at one time and some old time breeders cling to it. What it is more liable to do is cause the tri lobal look to the poof that is not acceptable.

Thank you both for the tips. Robin, do you have a pic of what you call the "tri lobal look"??

Awoke this morning to FOUR chicks, with one more zipping now. Still hard to see colors, but I'm thinking two partridges, a white, and a splash, so far. The one zipping is marked partridge too.

When the fifth one hatches, I'll get them out of the bator and into the brooder, and check them out better. LOVE the shank/foot feathering!!!

Sure wish my Marans chicks had that!

I'll see if I can catch a good pic of the one I have here. BTW, I've forgotten where I read it now its females that most often have these huge vaults. It might be an interesting experiment to see if that is true. It would be another way to sex at hatch.

Robin, thanks. I just read about that theory on the Hat Trick Silkie site. She said when her males started getting typier, they also had vaulted skulls, so...? Would be nice to be able to sex them early. Just had another one hatch, my first Buff!
