I don't think the Vaseline would be a good idea, it would get the feathers really dirty and matted. Everything from dust to litter would stick to it! I think most people trim some of the feathers away from the sides of the eyes. Mine are just babies, so I'm not there yet!
I pluck and trim but if you are showing, you can't trim.
I have heard of silkie owners using that pink hair tape, I might try the baby elastics.

I have 2nd Gen from him, they are not fully finished feathering but the colors have been exactly the same through the stages, as was Daddy color. I will keep only the best colored/patterned birds for breeding, to insure that the next gen is consistant.
I just wanted to share some pictures of my favorite little buff girl. She is two months old. I had to trim so she could see about a week ago. She is from Sundown's eggs.
And here are some more pics of chicks growing out right now.
Cockeral - He is crowing already. He is three months old. I will have some of these buff cockerals for sale soon...too many beautiful boys for me to keep

But in a nutshell the answer is Yes!
Awesome! If this weather ever breaks, I would love to get some eggs from you. Do you have a waiting list (duh!) for these?
