I wish I had come to this thread last year when I first joined BYC.
I have a black silkie hen w/ 2 chicks, both by my former blue splash roo, a cuckoo hen, 2 black chicks (unrelated), a partridge sizzle roo, and I am wintering over 2 silkies for a friend.
I need a few more!! LOL Hopefully in the spring!
Here are some pics...

Thanks Robin, So now I need to ask what colors would be popping up in the hackles of the dom white? So you are saying they need t disclose to the purchaser that they are dom white?

I have some whites that threw some with a very light greyish tint or lav tint if you will. I was told those were recessive white, was that incorrect do you think and they are dom white? I also have some whites that have a slight tinge of yellow but that could be because I feed mixed grains with the corn right ?

I may be incorrect on this, but I think the majority of white Silkies in the US are recessive white. I would guess that you would have to breed and keep records to determine if you actually had a dominant white. Again, I could be incorrect!

I also think the whites that threw the greyish tint would be considered silver-gene whites.

Paints do not include recessive white in their makeup. Could a single copy of c be in a paint (and passed to chicks)? Of course. The off coloured hackles are not from the silver gene.
