Silkies originate (or at least date back there for many hundreds of years) in China. China is VERY, VERY cold. Feathers insulate--do you think a down comforter would be cold? I do not know where the misconcetion about silkies and cold comes from. They are one of the most winter hearty breeds. Just keep them dry. They have far more problems in HOT weatehr than in cold.

ok today while my 2 older silkies were out running in the yard one of my 14 week old silkies from inside the coop started to crow it was just so cute. also i have 2 in the coop that are wanting to fight and pull feathers out is this the beginning of 2 roos fighting i believe that they are both roos. i also have a 3 week old silkie that does not look to good it is laying its head to one side alot and has runny poo what could this be i had a horable hatch this last time and 10 only made it one has a bad leg and the other is a cross beak. i would hate to lose them all.
