You can get most anything with the white hen as white may hide lots of colors. So much depends on the color genes your silkies have in their back grounds. The chicken color calculator says you will get half blue and half black with the buff and blue cross. There are some real experts on this thread. Hopefully they will see your question!
Well white hen came from a breeder who only bred and raised white for over 5 years so she is pure white then? white going back for at leased 5 years. Well I will wait and see I guess. Im hoping for some interesting colors so DH has to let me keep em. If they end up black they are going a CL as I have 3 black I am already trying to rehome to make room for other colors......
You all know chicken math.....
DH said 2-3 then I brought home 8 (had to raise em to get the best ones
)
then I found my 1st silkie... Got rid of all but 3 egg layers
Bought blue silkie hen
Bought new bigger coop on CL !!!
DH said 7 chickens total and NO MORE
found Ideal Poultry
Ordered 14 silkie chicks n 2 layers (had to raise em to pick out our favorite ones)
traded 6 silkie chicks for a laying white silkie hen.
sold a couple more silkiie chicks
Currently:
5 layers (3 Barred Rock and 2LF Light Brahma)
9 silkies (1 blue, 3 dark blue/black, 1 white, 3 splash, 1 buff roo)
3 eggs under broody blue
........
Waiting for chick season to start cause I have my eyes on some colors.......
DH said NO MORE.... Yet I got him to start working on a small coop ("to sell"
) 4'x4'x5'
I have plans for a breeding pen of project color silkies for next summer. 1 roo 2-3 hens. So I need to decide asap as I will need to get chicks goin soon so they could be laying by summer. And I can be on my way with eggs by the end of summer.
Thinkin paint roo over buff hens? or Pure White roo over buff? or buff roo over lav/self blue hens?
Any color mixing ideas you had but weren't able to try?
